The Kids Take Their Mother's Side on 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' (VIDEO)

'Gene Simmons Family Jewels'Things took a very serious turn with the return of 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' (Tue., 10PM ET on A&E) for its sixth season. Gone was the light-hearted tone and silliness that had permeated much of the series, replaced by a relationship that appears to be genuinely collapsing.

In our jaded society, we're quick to say reality television is staged and fake, but this feels very real, and their recent talk show appearances have been less than frendly as well, with Shannon walking out on Gene during one.

Nick and Sophie, who've spent much of their lives seeing their parents as this perfectly blissful union, were suddenly caught in the middle of an emotional rift through the center of their family. As was to be expected, considering the cause of the split, they sided with their mother and even felt Gene should have been the one to leave.

Shannon's sister, Tracy, felt the same way, confronting Gene in a very uncomfortable scene when she went to the house to fetch some clothes for Shannon.

"Why I am here getting clothes for her is beyond me," Tracy said to a silent Gene. "Why aren't you at a freaking hotel? I can't even look at you right now."

It's a dark chapter, and showed the clan at a very vulnerable point in their lives. It is interesting that they chose to keep the cameras rolling -- which will surely fuel the camp that's convinced this is all fake and staged for our benefit anyway -- but their openness and honesty shows a rare look into a relationship on the rocks.

With so many marriages ending in divorce, maybe looking so intimately inside a struggle like this will help people gain a new perspective on their own situations.

Gene wont leave because Gene is not a man. He messed up but still gets to go to his home where he thinks he's king. He's really a POS! Grow up Gene!
