Bruno Mars Talks Writing for Other People, Performs 'Runaway Baby' on 'Today' (VIDEO)

Bruno Mars on 'Today'Bruno Mars made a big impact behind the scenes before his emergence as a performer, writing hits for other artists, including 'Right Round' by Flo Rida, 'Wavin' Flag' by K'naan, and perhaps the best known of his co-creations, 'F@#$ You!' by Cee Lo Green. Friday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC), Matt Lauer asked Mars about his own career and writing for others.

After remarking on the attractive crowd Mars attracts, Lauer asked, "Now, though, that you're the guy with the Grammy and the front-man, are you going to keep writing for other people?" Mars, decked out in shades and a dark suit that matched the rest of the band, deadpanned, "Absolutely not. I'm done." He laughed and quickly retracted that, saying "of course" he would.

He and the band then played a raucous version of 'Runaway Baby' from Mars' album 'Doo-Wops & Hooligans.' Later Mars got off on the right foot with an impressive impression of James Brown's dancing, while his band did an amazing impression of James Brown's band.
