Ben & Jerry's Responds to Fictional Ron Swanson Ice Cream Flavor

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 26th 2011 9:00AM
Ron Swanson, Nick OffermanA cute fan-made image of a Ron Swanson-inspired Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor has been floating around the Internet for the last week, much to the delight of everybody here at AOL TV. But, things got real when Ben & Jerry's took note.

Taken from a line in a 'Parks and Recreation Season 3 episode where Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) demands all the bacon and eggs a diner has, the fictional ice cream is scotch-flavored and called "All the Bacon and Eggs You Have." Sounds ... perfect? Gross? Amazing? Too hard to say, really.

The fine folks and Ben & Jerry's took notice of the exceptional fan-crafted ice cream carton art and said this in a statement to NBC:

"We're thrilled that a passionate and dedicated Pawnee city government employee like Ron Swanson (who is a shotgun of humor to the funny bone) is getting his just desserts."

"Ron's beliefs are in accordance with those of Ben & Jerry's -- where two scoops of government can help the less fortunate and truly be a servant to the community and its citizens. Finally, for Ron's sake, we're happy that the recipe is almond-less; and we're thankful that the flavor did not include a turkey leg."

This isn't the first time Ron Swanson's food creations and brought them to semi-life. Jimmy Fallon had Nick Offerman eat a Ron Swanson turkey burger, a deep-fried turkey leg inside a giant beef patty.

Check out the art and scene that inspired the fake Ben & Jerry's ice cream below.

Yes, and it's also false that Ben & Jerry's is coming out with a new pint of Sarah Palin's Bananas and Nuts!

I'd eat that. Even though that woman is bananas and nuts. That ice cream sounds delicious.

yeah thanks Ben and Jerry's for "liberally" commenting on a TV show comedy bit from a character that doesn't share your views.

Ron Swanson never talks about his political party. He just lives steak, scotch, and Bacon. He could be liberal. You don't know that at all.

I really don't think that Ron Swanson believes that "two scoops of government can help the less fortunate and truly be a servant to the community and its citizens." The character is a hardcore libertarian who wants the government to stay out of everyone's lives (poor or otherwise), and he does everything he can to avoid the citizens of his community.

And yet he works in government. I still don't get that (unless he's doing some kind of "destroy from within" technique.)

That's the point of the character. The creators based Ron on some real Libertarians working for the government, fully aware of the irony of not believing in the mission of their job. Ron's bio on the City of Pawnee website (which, I think is run by NBC) mentions how he brings the department in under budget each year (spending a total of $0.60 in 2007) and he has been responsible for shutting down many public recreational spaces and most of the drinking fountains.

I could see that. I just think he hates doing anything worthwhile in government. Also, steaks are a good thing to be passionate about.
