'The O'Neals': Ryan Still Doesn't Get How Tatum Felt Abandoned (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 27th 2011 6:36AM
'Ryan & Tatum: The O'Neals'The rift on 'Ryan & Tatum: The O'Neals' (Sun., 10PM ET on OWN) isn't something that's going to be able to be healed over a few short episodes. But it was encouraging seeing them talk openly about what happened during Tatum's teenage years, even if Ryan still doesn't seem to get it. At least he didn't run away this time.

When she talked about being left alone, he tried to argue that she wasn't. She had her mother, who'd already given up custody of Tatum to Ryan, as well as "many, many friends," he told her. "You were a famous person."

"You hear how crazy that sounds," she said to him, but he didn't. He refused even to acknowledge that she was still a kid at the time, talking about how sophisticated she was for 17, and how she got her own apartment.

None of that, however, can fill the void left by a father who's seemingly abandoned you without explanation. So while this road of healing is a long one, and Ryan definitely needs to start owning up a big more to the mistakes he's made, at least they seem to be on it. Maybe they'll even reach the end of it some day.

The only way this situation can be resolved is in the ancient contest of Mortal Kombat.

This BIMBO is a junkie. She was a junkie tween, junkie teen, junkie adult. She is looking for someone to blame for her lousy life. She had a bad childhood boo hoo. She also had many more advantages than other kids that are abondoned by their parents. She loved being the little darling of the media until they started to report that she was just a brat on junk. Mac dumped her and took up the job of parenting their kids. He got rid of a bad influence on his kids lives and are trying to make them better human beings than their mother who is a LOSER.

Look up the meaning of DENIAL in the dictionary and you will see Ryan ONeal's name ! The counseling sessions with Ryan are a Joke, so far. He comes across as a misunderstood, caring father, and his children are the problem. The problems started long before Farrah came along. Hopefully he will learn something from the sessions ,if the counselor takes the opportunity to delve into the issues. And not let Ryan ramble on. It's easy to say, Tatum should walk away for good. But after all these years, she has this need for acceptance from her Father. Hope it's worth the heart ache again.

Seriously??? Sure, this guy made mistakes, just like you and I make them. Doesn't make it right, just like. What's wrong is for this daughter to hold some kind of grudge against her father for his past mistakes, if that's what they really were. We weren't there and there's no way we'll EVER know. It would serve this lady well to forgive her old man and move on, maybe even find a way to have a good relationship with him rather than harboring over the past, which by the way, NO ONE can change! They are all adults now so please at least actt hat way...act that way for the ones who actually ARE kids!

The following are rants about the person(s) who bore you! Kids owe their very lives to their parents and it is never ever the other way around! Youth is wasted on the young and the ignorant! You can only repay your debt to your parents by helping them when they need help and confrontation is never ever the right way to help a parent in need! Richard C. Vickerman

Ryan is cluless to most every thing, he's such a waste of human flesh, what a horrid father and partner he is/was. He totaly ruined his son and thank goodness Tatum sort of got away from him, but I know she has had problems. And Farrah..well we all know how he beat her and didn't marry her, he's such a creep, I can't say here how I feel about him.

This is another example of how money and fame don't guarantee happiness. These two are hanging their dirty laundry out for no other reason than to make $$$. When we stop being entertained by this kind of crap sponsors will stop paying to put it on TV and maybe then we'll get something worth watching. As far as her feelings and his poor fatherhood goes let's just say this; plenty of kids were raised in dysfunctional families and they grew into productive, forgiving adults. Parents are human, they aren't perfect beings. They make wrong, and selfish decisions sometimes and so will their children.

The reason this drama continues is because it is so past its prime it has warped into something else, called lets make money off of bitterness.

I am so sorry but these people are pathetic and sick making money off of their illness, this is sick trash and they really both ought to be ashamed, neither one apparently have a drop of dignity. Ryan, you were the adult, Tatum, you need to kick this man to the curb and stop your pathetic clinging, in case you havent noticed you are ALL grown up now.

Until he asks forgiveness for all he did to her from the moment she was born to the present time, here will never be a healing. I learned this by doing it with my own daughter.
