Amazing Guest Performers and Elimination Results on 'SYTYCD' (VIDEO)
When the judges left the set to deliberate their choice for elimination on this week's 'So You Think You Can Dance' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX), it was a double-whammy. First, they were going to have to send home two dancers, which is particularly difficult this season as the caliber of talent is so high. But, perhaps just as tragic, they missed the guest performance by Eric Luna and Georgia Ambarian. Cat Deeley introduced them as "the current United States and World Theatrical Ballroom Champions." All we saw was flawless execution and lighter-than-air choreography.
It's almost impossible to describe how effortless they made some of the most complex and stunning lifts look. Honestly, it looked as if Ambarian's bones must have been filled with helium, she just soared so light.
!!SPOILER ALERT!!
But after we got to sit with the euphoria of what has to be one of the best guest performances ever in 'SYTYCD's eight seasons, it was time to get down to business. The Bottom Three included Caitlynn Lawson and Mitchell Kelly, who were technically very strong with their samba, but perhaps failed to connect with the audience.
Joining them were Miranda Maleski and Robert Taylor Jr., who were their polar opposites, bringing more personality than anything to their Broadway piece. Rounding out the Bottom Three were Ashley Rich and Chris Koehl, which we expected after their bizarre Sonya Tayeh jazz routine. It was perhaps too esoteric for the general public, the judges didn't get it, and it didn't look like the dancers got it either.
After final deliberation, Nigel Lythgoe complimented Chris on the efforts of his solo. He urged Mitchell to find a way to connect with the audience more, and sent Robert packing. For the girls, Nigel offered no critiques, simply eliminating Robert's partner Miranda.
So, we've yet to break apart a couple, and all the power couples of the season still seem to be intact. Do you think the judges made the right call this week?
What did you think of the earlier guest performance by two members of AXIS Dance Company, incorporating dancers with and without disabilities into dancers together? It certainly created a unique viewing experience, and one we'll not soon forget.
