Kathie Lee and Hoda Discuss the 'Glee' Cast Shake-Up With Rob Shuter (VIDEO)

AOL's Rob Shuter stopped by the fourth hour of 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) to kick around the news that 'Glee' actor Chord Overstreet will not be returning to the show. According to Shuter, that may be just the beginning of the cast overhaul: 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy doesn't want his high school suspended in time with kids who never graduate, a la '90210,' and Overstreet's character Sam's departure is a reflection of that."He was in the season last year, he was terrific, everybody loved him," said Shuter. Nevertheless, Overstreet is gone, and there has been news that Murphy will push his other stars out when they graduate. "He said that these kids shouldn't be at school for ten years, that he wants them to graduate, he wants new cast, he wants fresh blood," said Shuter.
Shuter said the turnover will be good for young talent out there trying to make the show, and that the teachers will star to provide continuity. The new Oxygen reality show 'The Glee Project,' is devoted to finding new blood for the show. Only the winner is promised a spot on 'Glee,' but it wouldn't be surprising to see more contestants eventually become cast members if Murphy is especially fond of them.
