'Adventure Time with Finn and Jake' (8PM ET, Cartoon Network)
season premiere
The colorful kids' animation returns for its third season on Cartoon Network, continuing the adventures of Finn and his four-legged friend Jake as they traverse the mystical land of Ooo. In the season premiere, Finn and Jake find their tree house invaded by King Snuggadoodle and the Huggaboopies (yes, really).

'Eureka' (8PM ET, Syfy) summer season premiere
After a six month break, 'Eureka's' fourth season resumes with an unscheduled launch that causes havoc for the gang, while Carter finds himself in an awkward situation after S.A.R.A.H. and Andy's nuptials hit a speed-bump.

'The Closer' (9PM ET, TNT) final season premiere
Make the most of Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) while you can, as the seventh and final season of 'The Closer' kicks off its run of 15 new episodes (an additional six will air in 2012), before Mary McDonnell's Capt. Raydor spins off into her own 'Major Crimes' next year.

'Man vs. Wild' (9PM ET, Discovery Channel) season premiere
Hollywood hunk Jake Gyllenhaal guest stars in the season opener, joining Bear Grylls on a two-day trek through Iceland's most unforgiving terrain, across glaciers and mountains, and perilously close to an active volcano or two. His agent must've had a heart attack ...

'Alphas' (10PM ET, Syfy) series premiere
Syfy's getting in on the superhero action with the 90-minute pilot of 'Alphas,' an 'X-Men' flavored drama following a team of people with extraordinary abilities who investigate crimes linked to others with similar powers.

'Rizzoli and Isles' (10PM ET, TNT) season premiere
After the climactic first season finale, we find Jane (Angie Harmon) recovering from a shooting and being hailed as a public hero, but it takes a chance encounter with an old flame (Chris Vance) and a new case to help heal her emotional scars.


'Gordon Ramsay's Great Escape' (9PM ET, BBC America)
series premiere
Gordon Ramsay takes a break from whipping restaurateurs and wannabe chefs into shape to explore the culinary secrets of South East Asia. In the premiere, he visits Vietnam to try and master the country's most popular dishes.


'Big Brother' (8PM ET, CBS)

Allegedly, tonight is the night that "Evel Dick" Donato's abrupt disappearance will be explained, plus there'll be all the scheming, backstabbing and crazy competitions that we've come to know and love from the summer staple.

Glenn Close'Damages' (10PM ET, DirecTV) season premiere
Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and associates are back for another taut, compelling season of intrigue and double-crossing, and this year John Goodman is the client in need, playing a military contractor facing a wrongful death suit.

'Rescue Me' (10PM ET, FX) final season premiere
The final nine episodes kick off with Tommy's (Denis Leary) life in disarray as a result of the burgeoning friendship between Sheila (Callie Thorne) and the pregnant Janet (Andrea Roth).


'63rd Primetime Emmy Awards - Nominations Announced' (8:35AM ET, Fox)

Dedicated TV buffs will want to be up bright and early for the announcement of the 63rd Emmy Award nominations, hosted by 'Mike and Molly' star Melissa McCarthy and 'Fringe' actor Joshua Jackson.

'The Green Room with Paul Provenza' (11PM ET, Showtime) season premiere
More no-holds-barred opinions and topical snark from some of the most famous names in comedy, including Ray Romano, Gary Shandling, Judd Apatow, Margaret Cho and Kathy Griffin.


'Friday Night Lights' (8PM ET, NBC)

Say farewell to the show many consider to be one of the best dramas in television history as the Lions prepare for State and the Taylors face several decisions that could change their lives forever. Bring plenty of tissues.

'Haven' (10PM ET, Syfy) season premiere
Syfy's spooky supernatural drama returns for its second season with a dilemma of Biblical proportions for Audrey Parker: Her doppelganger shows up in town right around the same time a host of ominous plagues start affecting the community.


'Chaos' (8PM ET, CBS)

CBS' short-lived spy drama has the opportunity to end with a bang instead of a whimper tonight, as the team embarks on a rogue mission to Panama to rescue a former agent who was presumed dead but is actually being held hostage.

'The Indestructibles' (9PM ET, Fox) series premiere
Not to be confused with any ill-advised Sylvester Stallone movies, this documentary series investigates the science behind miraculous survival stories, such as tonight's offerings: "Flying Car Crash" and "Mauled by Lions."


'Breaking Bad' (10PM ET, AMC)

When the critically acclaimed drama returns, Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse's (Aaron Paul) lives hang in the balance as Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) takes some costly steps to ensure that he'll continue to be supplied with a "pure" product.
