A Sudden Disappearance Leads to Chaos and Panic on 'Big Brother' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 14th 2011 1:47AM
'Big Brother'The veterans of 'Big Brother' (Wed., 8PM ET on CBS) were riding high and feeling good after Rachel became the first Head of Household, assuring safety for her and Brendan, and giving them the ability to nominate another couple for elimination.

Outnumbered eight-to-six, they nevertheless put their plan into motion, nominating Keith and Porsche. Even the addition of the Golden Key -- granting the non-eliminated, nominated partner immunity until ten houseguests remain -- did nothing to sway their swagger.

But one call to the Diary Room changed all that.

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

If you've managed to stay off the Internet and avoid the Live Feeds, you were probably as surprised as the houseguests when Evel Dick was summoned to the Diary Room ... and never returned. Eventually, Rachel was summoned and came back with a note explaining that he'd left due to a personal matter.

As a token for losing her partner, Daniele was gifted the first Golden Key, but there was no indication that this would eliminate the first Eviction. This led to one of the most intense and pathetic emotional breakdowns we've seen yet, as Brendon, Rachel, Daniele and Jordan all seemed to think that Dick's departure was the end of all of them.

It was Jeff who came through with a pep talk. They may be down, but that doesn't mean they'll get picked off one by one. "If you think that you're gonna fail, you're gonna fail," he told them. "If you think that you can overcome and win, you can."

The pep talk worked, and just in time, as the Power of Veto competition was still on, with the HOH couple, nominated couple and one other random couple competing. The random choice was Jeff and Jordan.

The challenge had the pairs had one constructing a puzzle while the other fetched pieces and pulled them up and down a pulley. Because of the strength necessary to pull someone up and down vertically, Jordan was forced to do the puzzle. Which means that even though Keith and Porsche were separately trying to sabotage the challenge, Jordan was so awful it was difficult.

We loved Keith and Porsche each thinking the other didn't know they were throwing the challenge, but in doing so they handed Power of Veto to the couple that includes the reigning Head of Household. So, outnumbered, the veterans still held power and had the confidence they could beat these newbies at any challenge.

Also entertaining is how the Vets were summoning the new players upstairs like they were being granted an audience with the Godfather. Will this cockiness spell their doom, or will their actions continue to back up their words?

Brendan and Rachel opted to not use the Power of Veto to save Keith and Porsche, so the new kids will definitely be down one player. Each is convinced it will be the other. We'll find out tomorrow night.
