'The Office' Couple Expecting: Jim and Pam Will Have Another Baby

by Jean Bentley, posted Jul 14th 2011 2:45PM
Jim, Pam, The OfficeJenna Fischer will successfully avoid the tried-and-true baggy clothing/large purse pregnancy cover-up when 'The Office' returns this fall.

The actress confirmed to Vulture that her character, Pam, will also be expecting when we return to Scranton for season 8. " Pam will be pregnant when the season starts," she told Vulture.

While some shows have to scramble to come up with a believable story as to why a character is pregnant (see: 'Bones'), a bun in the oven actually makes sense for Pam and her husband, Jim, who already have a toddler.

Even more conveniently, a plot point from 'The Office''s Valentine's Day episode gives writers the perfect back story for the new baby. "Pam and Jim snuck away last season on Valentine's Day, and they had sex. The story is that they conceived this baby at that time and were keeping it a secret until we come back from the summer," Fischer told Vulture.

One downside: If the writers had chosen to keep Fischer's bump out of the show, the "let's try to hide this pregnancy as ridiculously as possible" game could've rivaled the season both Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders were both pregnant on 'How I Met Your Mother.'

'The Office' returns Thu., Sept. 22 at 9PM on NBC.

Tell us: Are you surprised 'The Office' is writing Fischer's pregnancy into the show?

I just have to COMPLETELY disagree. This is my favorite show currently on television. I actually believe that the writing is not only hilarious but also sometimes deep and poignant in a way lots of shows today are not. I enjoy seeing relationships develop and watching characters learn and grow on the show over time. Yes, the show is sometimes over the top and ridiculous, but I find that refreshing. Maybe I can relate to it because I've worked in some weird office settings or because I'm just strange, but I'm okay with that. I love THe Office!!!!

Isn't it time this trashy show was CANCELLED. I love Jenna Fischer, but why did she ever downgrade herself to play on such a trashy and UNfunny show. Tonight was the first night I watched it in years, and boom, it was just plain stupid, no humor, you know why cause I didn't drink a 12 pack before watching the show. You have to be plastered to be able to laugh at the stupid show. I have NEVER laughed even one miniscule laugh at any time watching that garbage. CANCEL IT and put some entertainment on.
