Ray Romano Talks Being Inspired by Bill Cosby and Just Wanting to Do Stand-Up (VIDEO)

Ray Romano, 'The Green Room with Paul Provenza'Ray Romano has come a long way from his roots as a stand-up comedian. He produced, wrote for and starred in one of the biggest sitcoms of all time for which he won an Emmy, and now he's a co-creator, co-writer and one of the leads on arguably one of the best dramatic series on television, TNT's 'Men of a Certain Age.'

But it all goes back to Bill Cosby, as he said on 'The Green Room with Paul Provenza' (Thu., 11PM ET on Showtime).

Cosby's stand-up on vinyl was Romano's first ever experience listening to someone to stand-up comedy. And right then he had a dream himself to do that. When Provenza asked him if he could have envisioned where he's at now in his career, Romano replied, "My goal was to do stand-up. I just loved doing stand-up."

It's a rare talent that is so gifted he can move from the stand-up comedy stage seamlessly into a dramatic venue and make it look like he's been doing it his entire career, but Romano is one of those talents. But he can still crack jokes with the best of him.

When he and comedian Marc Maron were reminiscing about their work on 'The Young Comedians Special,' Maron said the other comedians thought Romano was a better comic than all of them.

"I remember seeing your stand-up and thinking, that guy's gonna be a great writer," Romano returned without missing a beat. Cosby would be proud.
