'Hell's Kitchen' Season 9 Premiere Sends One Contestant to the Hospital (VIDEO)

'Hell's Kitchen' season 9 premiereLeave the kinder, gentler Gordon Ramsay to those wussies on 'MasterChef!' If you're serious about cooking, and you can take the abuse, welcome to the Season 9 premiere of 'Hell's Kitchen' (Mon., 8PM ET on FOX).

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

This must have been the most brutal opening week in 'HK' history, as it was enough to send one contestant to the hospital, and yet still someone was eliminated!

To his credit, Jason Zepaltas certainly had the will to stay in the competition, but his body just wasn't having it. He started feeling dizzy in the kitchen, leaving his teammates concerned. After an hour of struggled breathing, the medics were called in and he wound up getting oxygen.

When he wouldn't stabilize, they had to take him to the hospital, and he didn't make it back in time for service, and ultimately won't be back at all. Turns out this kitchen was way too hot for him. But with one chef eliminated from getting sick, Ramsay didn't go gentle on the remaining chefs, nor did he go easy on the Blue Team, who were already down a man.

They took the loss after failing to get a single entree out during the truncated service. After nominating Monterray Keys and Steven Paluba, Ramsay eliminated Paluba. Now they're down two men and the competition has barely begun. Looks like it's going to be a hot summer in 'Hell's Kitchen!'

Ramsay should not have went soft on him you cant call your self a professional chief if you cant stand the heat! I usually watch Hell's Kitchen on my SamsungBehold phone and I get live TV and my DVR recordings on my mobile device thanks to DISH Network. I did not think watching cooking shows in HD would matter all that much but seeing all that good food in 1080i has my mouth watering. Working for DISH Network I can tell you that DISH online is available to all of our customers and you can watch old and new episodes of your favorite programs. julysunrise1984 -- I don't know what you're thinking; there are many fine chefs who are overweight and do well both in hot kitchens and on TV. Some have been on Hell's Kitchen. Mario Batalli seems to have no problem on Iron Chef America either. If you can't handle the heat is a true enough statement, but on "Hell's Kitchen" it's not the heat of ovens and TV lighting, it's the competitive stress. A lot of people, of all ages and sizes, cannot handle that.

Ramsey is great.... he weeds out the ones that cannot take the heat (pun intended). If you make it to the finals on this show,,, you can handle most any kitchen.

Now #%@* Off (ha!)

I guess he should just give them a kiss and a time out when the screw up. If you think he's bad you should have been in the military in the 60s. They made men , just like he's trying to make chefs. If you fail you can't give up and always strive to be your best.

Half of those "chefs" are underqualified for the prize and need to go home. Ramsey is brutal, but he is looking for a top chef to run a real restaurant kitchen, not a line cook for Denny's or Waffle House. Not to mention a quarter million dollars in prize money. Interesting that the chef who was so cocky about his abilities to cook was the first to be ousted over his pathetic cooking skills. I guess he got his reality check. A legend in his own mind.
