Kyle MacLachlan, known to many for his roles in 'Twin Peaks,' 'Sex and the City' and 'Desperate Housewives,' has been tapped by 'Law & Order: SVU' for their Arnold Schwarzenegger-inspired episode.

According to TVLine, MacLachlan will play Andrew Raines, a member of the New York City upper crust who is the subject of a headline-grabbing scandal. The character's wife, Kathleen, will be played by Paige Turco.

Look for the 'SVU' team to get involved when something happens with the couple's son, Tripp.

The episode is set to air early in the season.

MacLachlan is no stranger to 'SVU.' The actor appeared in a 2004 episode as Dr. Brett Morton.

When 'SVU' returns from hiatus, expect major changes in Season 13.

Stephanie March and Diane Neal will return as Alex Cabot and Casey Novak. 'Cold Case' actor Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish, of 'Chase' fame, have joined the cast as two new detectives.

Along with the additions there have been some departures. Series stars Christopher Meloni and B.D. Wong will not be a part of the new season.

Marsika Hargitay's Olivia Benson will become a supervisor of sorts within the police force.

'Law & Order: SVU' returns to NBC Wed., Sept. 21 at 10PM.

Without the interactions between Meloni and Hargitay - I won't be watching. Losing Wong is just another blow to the show.

It's always tough when I try to adjust to new faces in a long-running show. So far, in SVUs history, they've done a great job of integrating new characters into the scripts. The transitions have gone pretty smoothly and I hope that this time is no different. This has been such a miracle of writing, characters, actors, stories, and the general feel and atmosphere, it's historically the best, for ME, at least. I've been watching TV since 1948, when our first tv station began on the air, and I must say that SVU has become Number one for me, over all. I'll really miss it when it finally ends. A long time from now, I hope.

Christopher Meloni leaving is a blow!!! There was a connection between Marissa Hargitay and him, and he will be very missed; however, I wish him well. I am very familiar with the work of Danny Pino and am thrilled he will be joining the SVU cast. He has always been great on Cold Case!!! I wish you had picked Katherine Morris as his partner detective.

It's sad that they reuse people. Him, Diane Neal, Hayden Panettiere, etc. Get new people, please and thanks.

I would have rather seen Kathryn Morris as the female detective.

Sounds like the producers didn't want to pay the escalating wages the stars receive once the show has been on for many years ...
