Pasha Makes a Woman Out of Caitlynn as the All-Stars Join 'SYTYCD' (VIDEO)
The addition of the All-Stars this week on 'So You Think You Can Dance' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) did not disappoint, with almost every dancer upping their game to rise up to their partner. But no one grew so much as a performer than Caitlynn, who was paired with Pasha.Pasha is one of the most exciting ballroom dancers to ever grace the 'SYTYCD' stage, and the producers seem to know it. He was the only All-Star to perform twice. First up, he made a woman out of Caitlynn in a sexy Argentine Tango that had the judges swooning and panting.
To this point, Caitlynn has looked like a young dancer, almost a girl still, in most of her performances, but she had a maturity beyond her years when partnered opposite Pasha. Later in the night, Pasha performed a Viennese Waltz with Melanie that looked like they were dancing on clouds.
There were so many strong performances on the night, it's impossible to pick a favorite. Sasha, as usual, blew us away by dominating out of her style and next to Twitch on a hip-hop number, while Jess proved he could do lifts and held his own opposite the always mesmerizing Kathryn in a beautiful and challenging contemporary piece that had her literally not seeing him until the final moments.
If we had to pick the weakest performance of the night, it would probably be Mitchell's Broadway piece with Melody. We kind of agreed with guest judge Neil Patrick Harris that the choreography by Tyce Diorio didn't really tell the story we were promised, but our bigger problem was a lack of any chemistry or connection between the dancers.
Marko proved he could be strong without Melanie when he owned a Samba with Chelsie. Tadd was solid, if not particularly remarkable, in a hip-hop piece with Comfort, while Clarice and Robert gave us a solid Bollywood piece ... we guess. We still don't really get this style, but at least the dancers seem to be getting stronger in it as the seasons progress.
The most unique -- and disturbing -- routine of the night featured the brilliant Allison partnering with Ricky on a nightmarish Tyce Diorio jazz routine that had a healthy dose of concept art and contemporary to it. It was absolutely riveting and at times uncomfortable, but certainly memorable.
Nigel said something about a whole new batch of All-Stars next week, but if that's true we hope they aren't going to cycle out all of this week's batch. We want to see Pasha, Kathryn, Allison and Twitch every week!
