Jennifer Lopez Close to Renewing Her 'American Idol' Contract

Jennifer LopezIt seems as though the game of cat and mouse that Jennifer Lopez has been playing with 'American Idol' execs all summer may soon be at an end.

According to 'The Wall Street Journal,' Lopez is close to signing a deal that will bring her back to the 'American Idol' judging panel for at least one more season.

When Lopez's original one-year contract -- estimated at $12 million -- expired back in May she said she was "on the fence" about committing to the series for another season, and she's been pitching her own TV talent show to networks.

'Idol' execs, in return, then let it be known that they were lining up possible replacements should they be unable to lure her back.

Cécile Frot-Coutaz, CEO at FremantleMedia North America, which produces 'American Idol,' declined to comment on the negotiations. But she said, "We're in good shape. No worries. No dark clouds on the horizon."

Lopez was hired for 'Idol' Season 10 to help fill the void left by departing judge Simon Cowell. However, it's her fellow newbie on the panel, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, who many see as the breakout star of the show this past season.

Both Tyler and veteran judge Randy Jackson have reportedly already signed multi-year deals ahead of Season 11.

Lopez and soon-to-be ex-husband Marc Anthony teamed up with 'Idol' creator Simon Fuller's XIX Entertainment and Dutch production company Endemol ('Big Brother' and 'Fear Factor') for their own reality show. '¡Q'viva! The Chosen' scours Latin America for undiscovered talent, according to network executives who have heard the pitch.

A spokesman for XIX Entertainment said the show will continue despite the couple's pending divorce. It has not yet been picked up by a network.

Fox declined to comment on the contract negotiations and Lopez's spokesman said "there is nothing to announce." Stay tuned for updates.

'American Idol' Season 11 is slated to premiere in January 2012, on Fox.

I don't understand how these American Idol judges get paid $12 Million plus for 6 months' work to pretty much laugh at the losers or praise everyone who shows up in front of them. Yeah, Jennifer is pretty to look at, and Steven - he thinks he's cute for spouting profanity and he's just as bad as Paula Abdul when it comes to his opinions. No one understands what the heck he's talking about. This is what they're paid for? With all the talent that is out there in Hollywood, can't they get at least ONE certifiable musician and music critic who pays attention to the performances and says something relevant and insightful?
These guys are way tooooo overpaid! Heck, give the AI winner $5 million. At least he daggone worked for it!
AI's winner this year got $250,000 from his record label as an advance for his first record.
Ford Motor Company gave him a truck probably worth around $100,000.
I don't know if he got one penny in cash from American Idol.
With the X-Factor offering $5million as the winner's prize, we'll see the best talent there first...and probably the leftovers coming to AI. Who knows, maybe Simon Cowell will invite Randy Jackson to join him and Paula next year...and then we won't even need Idol and waste $50 million to watch judges be awestruck, swoon and cry all over the judging process.

I was really HOPING she wasn't coming back! Idol became ALL about JENNIFER and THAT is NOT what the show is about!!!!!! Give that job to someone else! It seems it's all about MONEY for her and NOT helping new talent. Steven TYLER IS.......the star of the show no matter what J-LOW does!
