Krista Pushes A Car Around a Race Track on 'Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss' (VIDEO)
Chris Powell didn't pull any punches with Krista, his candidate for total body transformation on the season finale of 'Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition' (Mon., 10PM ET on ABC). Normally, he waits until Phase II or III for extreme physical challenges, but he set Krista up with one during the first three months.Starting at 445 lbs, he set her the task of pushing him in a car around the 1.5-mile track at the Texas Motor Speedway. All of this on the way to her Phase I goal of losing 100 lbs to earn a brand new car.
Krista powered through the challenge, through the 12 weeks and lost 105 lbs. As for the car she won? It's the same one she pushed at the Texas Motor Speedway, so she couldn't have been more excited.
The rest of the journey had a lot of ups and downs. Krista deals with stress by eating and her daughter's seizure condition makes her extremely stressed. Three weeks into Phase II she was up 25 lbs, but she then turned it around and was down 25 lbs from her Phase I weight by the end of Phase II.
By the end of Phase III, she was back up 30 lbs, but she turned it around again and dropped 60 lbs during Phase IV. In the end, she dropped a whopping 180 lbs, and while it was a tumultuous year, at least her overall direction was the right one. From 445 to 265 lbs is a huge weight off of her shoulders, which frees her up to be there for her daughter more than she was able to before.
That's it for the first season of 'Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition.' We found these stories inspirational and think Powell is a very engaging television personality. The show seemed to have more energy than 'Losing it With Jillian,' but didn't feel quite as personal. That said, it performed better -- perhaps the 'EM' branding helped it. Do you think it should come back for a second season?
