Professor Splash Jumps Into 12 Inches of Water From Three Stories Up on 'AGT' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 27th 2011 1:51AM
Professor Splash, 'America's Got Talent'This season on 'America's Got Talent' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC), we've seen a lot more of the novelty acts making it through. That's because we've been treated to some of the most bizarre and impressive stunts in this category, like the lunatic who calls himself Professor Splash.

We use the word "lunatic" affectionately, because we know we'd have to be crazy to jump off a three-story building into a kiddie pool of water. But Professor Splash did it like it's no big thing, leaving the judges speechless and stunned.

"To watch a man bellyflop into 12" of water from that height," Piers Morgan said was "absolutely sensational."

But is it enough to warrant the good Professor going onto the semifinals? How can he top this performance? And while it's certainly impressive, is it an act worthy of a show in Las Vegas?

Eleven other acts rounded out this third week of the 'AGT' quarterfinals. In the novelty category, Professor Splash went up against yo-yo expert Ian Johnson, and The Captain & Maybelle, who were the most disturbing act of the night.

Illusionist Seth Grabel impressed with a fun trick and good stage presence. Purrfect Angelz was a little too bland despite being a good-looking dance troupe, while Summerwind Skippers made jump-rope cool, but was it cool enough to move on?

The rest of the night was filled with various types of singers. SH'Boss Boys are still the cutest little rappers we've ever seen, while Landau Murphy is just as likable and impressive this time around. He's got that old soul in his voice that's infectious.

Lys Agnes gave a heartfelt performance, while Monet were respectable. Poplyfe turned in an improved performance from the last time we saw them, but a few vocal miscues may cost them votes.

As for Mauricio Herrera? We were never sure why he moved on over some of the other acts in the first place, and we don't see America voting him through beyond this point.

Which four acts do you see moving on? We see all those vocal acts hurting one another with the voting, but it's been almost impossible to predict who America will vote for this season. So, just for fun, we're going to guess: Landau, Seth, Lys and Professor Splash for the semis (though don't count out the SH'Boss cuteness factor).

I was stunned that Piers voted for this splash guy. How rediculous!! That is not talent and will never be an act in Vegas. Who would pay for the liability insurance? The magician was good and would make a much better show. I also didn't like the way Piers insulted the yo-yo kid. Even if he didn't like him he didn't have to insult him. After all he was just a kid. He did't win the votes so just let it go at that. I really think the votes should determine all the acts.

Explain to me how this becomes a Vegas act. The reason they put it at the end is so that the viewers would stay tuned to see if the guy killed himself. It is crass and tasteless television. And, by the way, take a good look at what's under the pool of water--a very thick, probably gel-filled, cushion.

Doing something so idiotic isn't talent... neither is the hooks in the eyes, nose and tongue.

...and this is a million dollar Las Vegas act????? So Boring (yawn)........ These judges really need to be replaced -- they let cheap sleezy no-talent go through and elimanate real stars in the making.... and yes, there was a great deal of extra padding under the pool. Either way, I doubt the pool jumping professor will make it through tonight because America knows talent, unlike the judges.

Paaalleeeese!! In the 70's I saw a guy do this in 6" of water WITHOUT a cushy air mattress underneath his pool!!! Let's see the guy duplicate that!!

I love the show, but do not enjoy watching the dangerous acts. I want watch them on TV, and would not pay to see a show they perform.
