First Look: Ted Danson on 'CSI'

by Chris Harnick, posted Jul 29th 2011 3:30PM
Ted Danson, CSITed Danson has been a bartender, an editor, a wealthy CEO, a doctor and now crime scene investigator.

The 'Cheers' veteran joins 'CSI' for its 12th season this fall, playing night-shift supervisor D.B. Russell. He replaces Laurence Fishburne, who joined the cast as a replacement for William Petersen.

Check out the full picture of Danson in action below. He's pictured with Marg Helgenberger and newly re-promoted series regular Jorja Fox.

"You can create a new character on the page, but until the perfect actor comes along and breathes life into it, it's just words," 'CSI' executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said in a statement. "We're very excited Ted Danson came along."

'CSI' premieres Wed., Sept. 21 at 10PM on CBS.

Lawrence Fishburne should have been Night Shift Supervisor after Grisson and his role would have been more real. Marge Helgengerger as Catherine Willows was never given the chance to show what she can do. She is a great actress. It is sad they are going in the direction of another new character with Ted Danson. Good actor just not needed here! Could have went with the great cast they have. Let them show their talent.

Throw another nail in the coffin. If they did a Crime Scene of CSI, Ted Danson would probably be the murder weapon.

Fishburne really didn't fit in, he's a great actor but the role was all wrong

CANNOT STAND TED DANSON. Looks like they're putting CSI out of its misery. First with Fishburne, and now the death knell rings with Danson. Won't bother to watch a single episode. He is too poor of an actor and don't think he'll fit in at all.

Lawrence Fishburne is not now and never was the Night Shift Supervisor after Grisson went native, Marge Helgengerger was and Nick took Marge's job as lead investigator.... Fishburne was a crass rookie. He was a disbarred surgeon looking for a job when he first started on CSI.

We really liked this show at first, but when you put that Fishburne guy in we basically stopped watching it. at first we did tape it and fast forworded almost all of it. After a while we stopped watching it all together.
Now that you have Ted Dason in it we will again be loyal watcher's.
We really think that this show will be in the top ten again.
The best thing you could have done was get Peterson back, but I believe that Ted Danson will be outstanding in the part.

The best thing you could have done was get Peterson back, but we believe that Ted Danson will breath a rush of fresh air into the show. He may be as good as Peterson or possably even better.

I'm not sure who's dumber: the writer of the article for not knowing that Jorja Fox was a regular last season or the numerous commenters who can't picture an actor in more than one role or separate his roles from his personal stands as a citizen. I'd like to take special note of the woman(?) who must watch the show on mute because she somehow didn't know that Willows has been the supervisor since Grissom left. Also, since William Petersen is still an executive producer on CSI and he and Danson were in Cousins together, for all we know Petersen might have been the one to recommend Danson for the role.

As some of the wiser posters have already said, Petersen exited of his own free will and he's not likely to come back, so build a bridge and get over it.

Ted Danson proved to me that he is an excellent actor in Damages. One of the best series ever produced. He was great in that piece.! But, CSI, is going to be wonderful again this year...as it always was and always will be with their most outstanding cast ! This is my favorite series!

I just hope he really plays it straight and does not try and be amusing. Could not stand him in that show he played the always in a bad mood doctor. We will see how this works out.

I'm just taking a wait and see attitude. I'm not a huge Ted Danson fan but I'm willing to watch at least once to see how he fits in there. Who knows? It just might work. I liked William Peterson but I also understand the need to move on.
