Cathy's Son Adam Is Completely Out of Control Now on 'The Big C' (VIDEO)

'The Big C' - 'The Little C'It was a very uncomfortable week on 'The Big C' (Mon., 10PM ET on Showtime), and it had nothing to do with Cathy's cancer. Sure, it's always a backdrop to the emotions happening on the show, but there was so much more going on.

And most of it centered around Adam, who is heading down a very nasty path. He's downright unlikable now, which I guess is a testament to the talent of the writing staff and Gabriel Basso in portraying him.

Granted, he owned up to giving crabs to his parents in what had to be a very difficult situation, though Sean forced his hand on that one. He had to admit to having sex for the first time, and then admit it was in their bed. How many of us would have considered just running away from home as a viable alternative to that admission. And that wasn't even all of it!

But trying to use the sick mother card to keep his girlfriend from breaking up with him was a simply horrible thing to do. Then, he was much more disrespectful to Cathy for telling his now ex-girlfriend about his crabs while at the same time admitting he'd been with a prostitute in his parents' bed. That's where the crabs came from.

She yelled at him for bringing a disease into the house that they now all have to deal with, and he turned her words right back on her. Son of the year material there!

But while Adam is spiraling so far out of control Cathy admitted she doesn't even know how to parent him anymore, she did find one area of her life in which she was successfully able to exert some control, and it was paralleled by Paul getting some control of his own. Both of them at work.

Paul may be downsized to a big box electronics store, but it was great seeing him prove he's still a leader and a decent man when he made the assistant manager wet himself in fear over refusing to promote a co-worker because he's an immigrant.

It was great seeing the guy then show up at Paul's house, wanting to ask Andrea out. It gives Andrea something to do in the show, and she could always use something in her life like a decent human being who's into her for the right reasons.

Cathy, meanwhile, may have gotten the coaching job for the swim team out of pity, but she's damned well going to keep it, and it looks like she's going to be good at it as well. It was a little surprising that what looked like her entire team was willing to defy their angry parents to stand by her, but then that's what Adam would do so maybe not, after all.

It's good to see her find something to be passionate about professionally. But she and Paul really do need to figure out what to do with Adam. Sean seems to be the only one who gets through to him, but he can only do so much as the slightly crazy uncle across the street. At least do it before we start absolutely hating the poor kid.
