After Newt Gingrich boasted he had "six times as many Twitter followers" as his fellow Republican candidates, he's come under scrutiny in light of accusations that up to 80 percent of those followers might not be real.On 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central), Stephen Colbert believes Gingrich when he says they're all real.
"I have no reason to doubt the word of a man who cheated on two wives," he said. But even if they are invented, Colbert sees no reason to look at this as a negative.
"Making up people could be the key to keeping Newt's campaign alive," Colbert explained. "And while he's at it, folks, he should also create a fake Newt Gingrich, because the current one's not doing too good."
