Marg Helgenberger Confirms 'CSI' Exit

by Chris Harnick, posted Aug 3rd 2011 3:45PM
Marg HelgenbergerMarg Helgenberger, one of the original 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' stars (can you believe it's been 11 years?), is leaving the popular CBS drama.

Helgenberger appeared onstage alongside new castmate Ted Danson as part of the 'CSI' panel at the 2011 TCA summer press tour and announced her plans to depart the series.

When asked if this would be her last season as Catherine Willows, Helgenberger said "Yes." However, Danson and George Eads joked it wouldn't be her last if they had anything say.

Over the last few years, Helgenberger has made no secret about her desire to move on from the series.

In March of 2011, Helgenberger was said to be in talks only to return for a "handful of episodes." "The older you get, the more comfortable you become with who you are and who you are continuing to become," she said. "I'm looking forward to the next chapter."

Even earlier than that in April 2010, Helgenberger was coy about her future with the series. "My contract is up actually," Helgenberger told AOL TV, when asked if she would be returning for 'CSI' Season 11. "That's a good question. I haven't been asked back, so we'll see." She ultimately signed on.

I do hope she changes her mind cause without Grissom, Catherine is quite important. I have always enjoyed watching her and without her, the show would not be the same.

absolutely will miss her.....after all the time spent doing something you love/enjoy it is hard to leave and equally hard to stay...we all know in our lives when it is time to close the chapter (NOT the book) and move on to the NEXT chapter.......wish you the ABSOLUTE BEST of the Future....I certainly enjoyed your performance as Cathrine Willows now go write your next chapter hugs2U!

I will very much miss her.I have been wayching this show from day 1 and it was bad enought when Grissom left and Warrick was killed off. I had grown used to Laurence Fishbourne being on and he is really good. I just am not to sure I will watch much of it anymore now that Ted Danson will be on there.

This isn't about pay, or her looks, or all the plastic surgery, age or anything other than HER desire to move on.
What a stupid thing to do. She is a late middle aged actress who is still considered sexy, and a decent actress. Where does she think she's gonna get steady work and great pay ? The big screen? That's a joke! The stage?
That too is ridiculous. That's where the "star" of the show went and he's become completely unheard of. These people just don't appreciate a good thing. I'd be happy to take her job on CSI and I'd put everything into it and stay
until I died on the set.

Marg isn't the one that needs to leave. The guy that plays the lieutenant is (and has been for a long time) the weakest link on the show.

Wow people time for this show to go where all great shows go .... A bit over due her departure as for the simple sense of it all she is quite long in the tooth and the make up people have to work like dogs to cover the age to the degree that they do ..... Plus remember she is a C list actor from the soaps .., she has made more bucks in the past 11 years than she ever dreamed was possible to accumalate Plus more in any one year than she made in all of her other acting combined ... Dear at your age take the money and retire from acting go have some fun in life. The show has been sliding for a couple of years .... It is too late to leave on top so go before you hit the bottom.. Perhaps you can replace Sally Feilds on the boniva commercials ....

'bout time she left. If she continued with more botox and face lifts, we'd be forced to watch her from the back only cause her unmoveable face is soooooo tight,, her nose and mouth would be on the back of her head!
