Syfy Cancels 'Eureka'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Aug 9th 2011 7:20AM
'Eureka' CastBad news for 'Eureka' fans: It's been reported that Syfy has changed its mind about giving the series a sixth season.

Last week we heard that Syfy had ordered a final six episodes to close the series out with a truncated sixth season in 2013 but, according to 'Entertainment Weekly,' those six episodes have now been nixed.

In a statement, Syfy said: "After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of 'Eureka.' But 'Eureka' is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy."

The statement continues: "The 2012 episodes are some of the best we've seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012."

Last week it seemed as though Syfy could be thinking about a possible spin-off series as Mark Stern, President of Programming said "we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise." But that's still just speculation at this stage.

Fans still have Season 5 to look forward to. It will run for 13 episodes and includes a fun-sounding animated holiday episode.

Syfy announced the "first-of-its-kind episode" last month, tantalizing fans with a glimpse of what to expect: "The quaint town of geniuses will be transformed into animated versions of themselves. The stand-alone holiday episode will also feature a stellar line up of guest stars lending their voices to a variety of characters -- Jim Parsons, Chris Parnell, Matt Frewer and Edward James Olmos."

No air date has yet been announced for the holiday episode.

I agree with most of the posts because SYFY was finally making some decent movies and had some of my favorite shows but they are screwing up by having reality shows and wrestling I loved eureka and bam they cancel it If the keep leaning the programing the wrong way they will blow it for most viewers. They started to have some bucks for good shows and movies. They stay on the same track and it will be back low budget b crap again so I hope they pull there head out of there *%*&^%

Since SyFy cancelled Eureka we cancelled satellite service altogether. Eureka was the last reason why we kept paying the price of a television service, the show was worth it. Have gone back to just using an antenna. Oh well, saves us money. Great job Eureka crew!

Eureka is one of the best shows on SyFy. I understand that actors wise to move on too other things, you can replace them. So SyFy do's not have to repace it with a not so good one

I can't believe they are canceling a great show like this and airing wrestling!?!?!? I have been watching from the very first show and am going to miss it and all the great characters. This is a real  decision by the people in charge.

The way SYFY has been running latley, they should be called SyFail! Bring Back STARGATE! or rerun classic shows. Not just twilight Zone maybe a little Lost in Space and other old series like they used to!

They are always doing new things, but in a way which doesn't make people feel stupid. Instead it leaves you wanting to tune in and see more. And you really feel connected to the characters, so it's bad that they are killing the show. But howcome they say one day that there will be 6 new episodes then the next day they say it isn't true? Doesn't anyone talk to anyone? Sounds an awful lot like one person is the boss of everything and make this decision on his own. Sad to see that bad bosses are universal, even in "Eureka."

Love Eureka, what a joy to have a show with "smart" people instead of feels in it.

Totally agree with dmys71855 comments below.

I've been a SYFY watcher from the very start because of their unique programs. I hardly even watch 3, 6 or 10 anymore since they are consumed with all these stupid reality shows. My favorites now are SyFy, USA, TNT and A&E. Let's hope they don't get the realtiy bug!
