Getting dropped off in the middle of Utah might not sound too dangerous ... just find a highway and hitchhike your way back to Salt Lake City, right? Not so fast. As Bear Grylls found out on 'Man vs. Wild' (Fridays, 9PM on Discovery), Utah's rough outdoor terrain can be a unforgiving and dangerous.Crossing rapids is dangerous business, no matter where the water is. Grylls had to apply his survival skills get by, tying a rope to a tree before entering the water. "I'm holding myself out of the main stream for as long as possible," he said in the voice-over. "Because when the full force of the water catches me, I'm gone."
Grylls looked for civilization by following a trail of horse poop, claiming these were techniques Native Americans used to cross great wildernesses. "If that isn't fresh," he said, holding a clump up to his nose before throwing it at the camera. "Smells fresh." Eventually, he found "a real cowboy." We can only hope one of them was carrying hand sanitizer.
