Kate Gosselin: Career Suggestions for the Mom of 8

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 16th 2011 10:45AM
Kate GosselinAfter TLC announced yesterday that it had canceled 'Kate Plus 8' after seven seasons, the intrepid folks at Entertainment Weekly decided to contact reality TV king Mike Fleiss, creator of 'The Bachelor,' for his insight into what star Kate Gosselin should do next.

"Kate Gosselin? Sounds like a perfect fit for 'Bachelor Pad," he told EW. "Or, 'H8R'..."

Actually, 'H8R,' The CW's newest reality series featuring celebs confronting people who claim to dislike them, sounds like a great fit. But in the meantime, we have a few more suggestions for Kate so she doesn't go the way of ex-husband Jon -- date a teenager, team up with a trashy clothing designer and constantly look like she bathed in day-old Red Bull mixed with Axe body spray.

Below, we outline three career options we think the Gosselin matriarch should consider.

1. Go back to nursing and avoid the spotlight.
Before Kate and her large family became a reality sensation, the Pennsylvania native was a labor and delivery nurse at a hospital. We think she should return to her roots and go back to her old career. Steer clear of the media for a while -- it'll do her good.

2. Live off your TV salary and book money and avoid the spotlight
Notice that we recommended avoiding the spotlight again. This is key. During the Gosselin divorce, we couldn't get away from Jon and Kate's faces -- which probably contributed to the steadily declining ratings for Kate's TLC show. If she gets away from the camera for a while, we won't have Gosselin overload whenever she decides to return. Besides, she's made plenty of money over the past five years between the TV show, speaking engagements and her best-sellers.

3. If all else fails -- go back to reality TV.
Look, we know it takes a certain type of person to want to be a reality star, so the itch to be in the spotlight might not go away. Instead of a series exploiting her eight kids, Kate should focus on the many reality TV styles left to mine. Fleiss was on the right track -- how about her own dating show? Or a spin on 'H8R'? We hear good things about 'Hair Battle Spectacular'... (Are jokes about her hair old yet? Yes, you say? Too bad. We're going there anyway.)

Tell us: What do you think Kate Gosselin should do now that 'Kate Plus 8' has been canceled?

Since she won't have any TV money to keep her house and afford the things her kids need to grow up, why not open an adoption agency? Solves two problems at once!
