MTV Renews 'Awkward' for Season 2, 'Sing Off' Lineup Revealed & More TV News

AwkwardExcellent news for fans of smart, funny television for teens: MTV has ordered a second season of its newest scripted series, 'Awkward.'

Written by Lauren Iungerich, the show follows an outcast teen who rises in popularity after an accident leads everyone to believe she tried to kill herself. Awkward. The first season is currently airing Tuesday nights at 11PM following 'Teen Mom.'

MTV's first original series, 'The Hard Times of RJ Berger,' was canceled last week after two seasons.

In other TV news ...

* NBC announced the 16 a cappella groups who will compete on Season 3 of 'The Sing-Off.' They include college, high school and professional ensembles, plus two different groups with 'Sing-Off' Seasons 1 and 2 veterans. [NBC]

* Courteney Cox is taking on another job on her ABC comedy 'Cougar Town.' The exec producer and star will direct an episode this season. [TV Guide]

* ABC Family is developing a version of the Mexican drama 'Terminales.' The show follows a young female publicist who finds out she has terminal cancer. [Deadline]

* Sean Hayes' NBC comedy pilot is set to land 'Rescue Me' co-creator Peter Tolan. The show is about a gay couple raising a son. Hayes will likely play one of the dads. [EW]

* Tolan is also teaming up with 'Drop Dead Diva' creator Josh Berman on a drama about a female FBI profiler. She's teamed up with a local homicide detective, who happens to be her ex-fiance who came out of the closet on their wedding day. [THR]
