Porsche Engine Owner Disputes Expert Mechanic's Assessment on 'Pawn Stars' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 16th 2011 6:20PM
The owner of a Porsche engine and expert mechanic Danny Koker on 'Pawn Stars'Rick Harrison trusts his experts more than he trusts his potential sellers. That's the way he has to run his business on 'Pawn Stars' (Mondays, 10PM on History). That reality came as a shock to the owner of a Porsche 911 Carrera engine., when Danny Koker, Harrison's expert mechanic, said the engine might be damaged.

Koker saw some surface rust, and deduced from the fact that none of the compartments were closed that there was also likely damage inside the engine. "What's going on on the surface is going to be going on, to an extent, inside," said Kokel. "And that's the unknown." The engine's owner didn't like that and flat out called Kokel's assessment wrong, saying it was a good engine.

As an added insult, he turned to Harrison to plead his case. "I think you have to bring a good mechanic, a professional one that, that can know what to do," said the engine's owner. "Danny's my man," said Harrison. "He can fix anything." The engine's owner kept pushing. "Not anything," he said. Later, Harrison said he was glad Koker doesn't have a temper, because the quarrel could have gotten ugly.

After all of that, the engine's owner was shocked when Harrison passed on buying the engine. "I don't want to make an offer," Harrison told him. "I just don't think the risk-reward is here." It could have been the rust that scared him, or the fact that the owner couldn't stop blinking when he talked. Maybe his eyes weren't open long enough to see the rust.
