John Hodgman and Jon Stewart on How to Save Book Stores (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 17th 2011 3:47AM
With the news of Borders going out of business, John Hodgman stopped by 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) to talk about the demise of brick-and-mortar book stores in this digital age.Where will all the condescending nerds go next, now that record stores, video stores and now book stores are going the way of the dodo? Phone stores, maybe?
But Hodgman isn't willing to give up on bookstores yet. He presented some great ideas to stimulate interest in walking through those doors. For example, instead of author signings, he suggested author live writings.
"Bring the author in, tie him to a desk, and make him write a novel to order," he said. "Customers can shout out their own ideas while pelting the writer with $4 scones."
