Al Sharpton Gets MSNBC Show 'PoliticsNation'

by Alex Moaba, posted Aug 23rd 2011 2:45PM
MSNBC has officially blessed the Reverend Al with his own show. Sharpton, who's been filling in on the network's 6 PM hour for the past two months, will now host his own show, called 'PoliticsNation.'

Sharpton began filling in for Cenk Uygur in early July while he was out on vacation, and put up solid ratings in his stead. Shortly after Uygur returned, he and the network had a very public falling out in which Uygur alleged he was pressured to "tone it down."

"I've known Rev. Sharpton for over a decade and have tremendous respect for him. He has always been one of our most thoughtful and entertaining guests," said MSNBC President Phil Griffin in a statement. "I'm thrilled that he's now reached a point in his career where he's able to devote himself to hosting a nightly show. 'PoliticsNation' is going to be an incredibly strong kick-off to our evening schedule."

The move puts Sharpton up against the second hour of CNN's 'The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer,' and Fox News's 'Special Report With Bret Baier' on the nightly cable news dial.

"I am very happy and honored to join the MSNBC team as we collectively try to get America to 'Lean Forward,'" Sharpton said in a statement. "It is a natural extension of my life work and growth. We all learn from our pain and stand up from our stumbling and one must either learn to lean forward or fall backwards. I'm glad they have given me the opportunity to continue my forward lean."

Sharpton has shown himself to be an advocate for the poor and working class, and has recently began to criticize the Obama administration for not doing enough to help the struggling black community.

Let’s clear the air. In the deck of social cards that are played every day in our lives, there is a “race card”. The very fact that certain people accuse people of “playing the race card” is an admission that the card does, in fact, exist. That is an undeniable fact of life. Pretending that it does not exist or that it is “not fair” to be used is to deny the reality of coping with our daily lives. It may, at times be uncomfortable, but necessary to move forward in our diverse Nation.
It is interesting that the Republican Party for the 1st time in its history selected an African-American to serve as their Chairman, coincidentally, when this Country has its first Democratic African American President. My hat is off to the reality check on their political strategy to gain as much control of governing this Country as possible. I am surprised that no one pointed a finger at the GOP for playing “the race card”, particularly now that the Republicans have removed Michael Steele to support their far right members for the 2012 elections.
For what it is worth,

I am concerned about the fact that my 1st Amendment Right of our Constitution may be in jeopardy if Mitt Romney becomes President. While he has a right to his religion of Mormonism, he does not have the privilege to run my Country after being raised in a religion that discriminated against blacks from the time he was born until he was 31 years of age. I don’t trust that he can change how he was raised as a devout leader in the Mormon Church. As a citizen I have the right to choose my religion. As President of the United States that person has the power to use his religion and up bringing to influence his every day decisions and the future of my Country! I think that it is interesting that Marco Rubio was also a Mormon and is being considered as a Vice Presidential candidate. I am not talking about an individual citizens’ freedom of religion, I am talking about the influence and power of the Office of the President of the United States of America on our religious freedom who is a devout Mormon leader. If he says that he will not let his religion influence his decisions, would you believe a person accused of being a “flip flopping”, “etch-a-sketch” person?

We love the Al Sharpton Show. The truth is the truth, no matter how much it may hurt.
His representation for African Americans is greatly appreciated.

Herman Shame not Herman Cain caused his own grief. He started off on the wrong path, by belittling his own race as if he was not apart if the African American race.

He provided proof of his race preference in his adulterous activities.
His disrespectful remarks and unrpofessional behavior is what caused him to fail personally and politically.

Rev. Al Sharpton ,
The Republicans keep saying that with tax breaks for the wealthy they can expand their companies and grow and hire more. Well if the tax breaks went to the average working class they would in turn spend the money on products. That in return would go right back to the companies as profits. With those same profits the companies can expand and grow and keep people working at the same time. Rather than hope that with the tax breaks to the wealthy that they do the right thing and do more hiring. It seems to me to be a no brainer that with the tax breaks to the average worker everyone wins!!!
Thanks, Randy
