'Ancient Aliens' Suggests Catholic Rituals Might Have Alien Source (VIDEO)
'Ancient Aliens' (Thursdays, 10PM on History) gets to ask all of the really important questions. Take, for example, the theme of Thursday's show about Catholic rituals, Egyptian myths. "Could the Roman Catholic ceremony of eating the body and blood of Christ actually have its origins in the ancient Egyptian story of Osiris?" asked the voiceover. Reasonable so far, we guess. "And if so, does it suggest that the Catholic religion, like other ancient beliefs, has its roots in an extra-terrestrial encounter?"Yep. Aliens. Those of you who have to wait in line for stale communion wafers can blame E.T. And that might not be the only ritual swiped from aliens. "The mass, the communion, the transubstantiation of eating the body of God, allows us to ingest the divine energy," said Jonathan Young, Ph.D., Founding Curator of the Joseph Campbell Archives. "This is called manna, or magical energy. And the almost cannibalistic aspect of the ritual is crucial."
It is tempting to use aliens to explain the unexplainable. Your alien abduction, for example, must have been what made you so sleepy you didn't hear your alarm and now you're late for work. Their spaceships also run on socks from your drier. They're everywhere, those aliens.
