Zoe Saldana Says Women Can Make Violent Action Films Sexy and Edgy (VIDEO)

In the new film 'Columbiana,' Zoe Saldana plays a woman who saw her parents murdered as a child, and grows up to be an assassin. She goes to work for her uncle, the ultimate goal being revenge on the people who killed her parents. Friday on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC), she talked about playing the lead in a violent action film, a role typically filled by male actors. She said it was empowering for a woman to play a role that would usually go to a man, especially in a film like 'Columbiana.' "It's a genre that is very geared towards males," she said, "and when a woman can do it and get away with it, and you don't compromise the violence that a film about revenge would entail, it's just sexy and edgy has all heart. So I'm really proud of the movie."
Kit Hoover said she thought even the fight scenes in 'Columbiana' were sexy. By way of illustration, she rolled a clip of Saldana beating the crap out of a guy, which perhaps tells us more about Kit Hoover than 'Columbiana.'
