J. R. Martinez on 'Dancing With the Stars': All About the 'All My Children' Actor

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 29th 2011 9:50PM
JR MartinezJ. R. Martinez might be familiar to daytime TV fans, but chances are the rest of the world doesn't know much about the 28-year-old actor, who has signed on to compete during Season 13 of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

Martinez currently plays Brot Monroe, the presumed dead love of Lt. Taylor Thompson (Beth Ehlers), on ABC's soon-to-end soap opera 'All My Children.' (Good timing for the new gig, right?)

But before his life as a famous actor, Martinez served as a U.S. Army infantryman in Iraq, where he sustained burns over 40 percent of his body in 2003. After almost three years spent recovering from his injuries, the Louisiana native, who also grew up in Arizona and Georgia, began working as a motivational speaker.

A successful career in motivational speaking has landed him in countless national publications, in addition to guest spots on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' '60 Minutes' and 'Good Morning America,' among others.

While we're not sure how Martinez's 'Dancing' skills will match up with his competitors, the former high school athlete (he traveled to Georgia's state football championship as a senior) could prove to be nimble on his feet.

How do you think Martinez will fare on Season 13 of 'Dancing With the Stars'?

If the winner isn't already fixed, J R will be right there near or at the finish. He sure seems to be a good guy with a lot of courage, but I smell a rat about counting votes.Who i the world is voting for Nancy?

JRMartinez,
is my pick from the start. not only can he dance, but there is no phoniness, like others.
The girl hostess on the show on the other hand that gets the scores after they dance, needs to get over herself... she comes across very phoney for the 2nd year now. She may be nice, but her body language and voice says phoney..............................................
The gal before was much more natural and real.
