Laura vs. Malaysia Over Who's a 'Rat' on 'Basketball Wives LA' Premiere (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 30th 2011 12:51AM
'Basketball Wives LA' premiereThe spin-off machine remains in full force. Have a successful reality launch? Try to recreate the magic in another city, tack the city name onto the end of your title and voilà! Instant success. And it works more often than not, as evidenced by the premiere of 'Basketball Wives LA' (Mon., 8PM ET on VH1).

One episode in, and already these ladies are sparring and fighting like they've been on opposite ends of the playground since grade school. Malaysia may be one of the more complex women on the show, though that wasn't on display whenever she was with the other wives.

This self-proclaimed diva from Compton seems to come from a humble background, but has chosen to protect herself behind a facade of superiority that rubbed some of the women up the wrong way; particularly Laura.

The two of them sparred over lunch and almost came to physical blows, because apparently that's what they think they should be doing on these shows. A lot of the tension just seemed so ... forced. And not by the producers, per se, but from the wives who are maybe trying to fit into a mold they think they should.

To paraphrase the show that was at the forefront of this kind of entertainment, we'd much rather wait to see what happens when these strangers stop being im-polite and start being real. When 'The Real World' premiered, everyone tried to be nice for a while, but it seems we've shifted to the exact opposite on reality shows.

Everyone knows the more outrageous and obnoxious you are on these shows, the more you'll get noticed. Maybe once these wives relax and get more comfortable, we'll get to see their true personalities emerge.

lol@people who talk about black women compromising their dignity for the sake of a TV show when every white woman in EVERY sit-com portrays some sex starved character who will do just about anything to get laid. Not to mention the relentless forms toilet humor that is cleverly integrated into the storytelling styles approved by networks.

I apalled with the behavior of these people. I chose not to say for very obvious reasons. I once heard a wealthy person say, "...money means that your a just a rich whatever you were before the money." These people are proving this statement to be true. If you you grace, class, and dignity before the money, that carries over to a rich person with those qualities. I also believe that money can change people. There's the risk of changing into someone who's arrogant, and has an unpleasant disposition. It takes self knowledge, pride, and a since of what's appropriate and what's not to remake yourself into a person a strong character, high moral standards, with a little of tact and class added into the mix. I have to wonder if they even understand how inappropriate and most of all, embarrassing their behavior is?

To be young Sisters It is sad that a few of them (( grown women)) are proffesional BB players wives act like they are on a battle field of misery . The foul mouths that they have is distasteful they need to learn some proper vocabulary it would not hurt them one bit. They need to get some class and not act like trash with all that money get with it. They need to read some books on etiquette. That was a scene as if they are were in high school straight from the....... They say you can take some people out of the country but you cant take the country out of them that was surley proved on the first show........ What ever they thought that they were representing they have failed.

It is ashame that these black women fell they have to lower their standards just to get some publicity, it is pitiful. The show is fill with so many beeps you can't hear a full conversation. And a decent husband wouldn't first want a woman who is full of profanity, and second to go on national television and act such a FOOL !

Which basketball players are these ugly women married to or dating. I am not making millions and I do better than these trashy looking women. Look at all their fat mid-sections, get some workout in with your men instead of sitting around and acting the ghetto women you are. You are guys are not representative of the black women and are disrespecting other black women with your ugly behaviors. Get off the screen and crawl to where you guys came from..

This is getting really old, really fast. I'd rather watch the drunken "smooshing" and fake tans of Jersey Shore than watch another group of too-old-for-this-really-need-to-sit-my-ass-down-but-Im-broke-and-need-the-money Black women fake their "hoodness" and duke it out over some bull ****. I'll be glad when Black women stop glorifying violence and "beating someone's ass". Grow up. NO ONE on these shows REALLY gets their ass beat (with the exception of that College Hill fight in the Barbados, but I digress). This is just ridiculous. Same ole' ****....just a different show.....
