James SpaderLast season, 'The Office' and its loyal viewers said goodbye to Michael Scott. This season? Say hello to Robert California.

It's no secret James Spader will join the cast of 'The Office,' but did you know he's intimidating the pants off the other actors? In a new video, the cast talk about Spader's new CEO character and what it's like working with a method actor like 'Boston Legal' veteran Spader.

"He scares the sh-- out of me," Phyllis Smith said.

In the video below, 'Office' showrunner and actor Paul Lieberstein (Toby) and the cast preview the new season and finding a new Scranton branch manager.

'The Offices' premieres Thurs., Sept. 22 at 9PM on NBC.

Spoiler Alert!
Here's Season 8 of The Office:

Episode 1-Cold Open...
1- James Spader is sitting in Michael Scott's chair as new Regional Manager. (Paul Lieberstein, the showrunner, says we'll know who's the Reg. Mgr. in the cold open. BUT, Paul's playing a misdirection game. He wants us to think it'll be some other cast member, instead of James.)

2- Robert California will outgrow his new Reg. Mgr. job in 22 minutes, becoming CEO of Dunder Mifflin by Episode 2, leaving the Reg. Mgr. position vacant.

3- Now, here's the BIG surprise Paul & writers have in store for us:
EVERYONE will get a chance at Regional Manager! Robert will spend Season 8 ROTATING various Office staff to the position. He'll explain this as "Roberts New Rules of Order", his way of selecting the new permanent manager.
How do I know this?
Because in this new NBC promo video, Spader (see 3:30 minute) slips up and says, referring to the selection of new Regional Manager: " It gives ALL of the members of the cast a chance to shine this year."
Why would the selection of one cast member-say Andy, Jim, or Gabe, - give EVERYONE else a chance to shine?
Robert (as Spader inadvertently revealed) will ROTATE all members of the cast in the Regional Manger position, giving them all a chance to shine!

So, throughput Season 8, we're going to see possibly the zaniest, freshest Office yet, with people like Angela, Kevin, Pam, Stanley, Andy, even Erin-all trying out as Regional manager.

What a clever way to add huge new, funny, story lines to The Office and extend its run for perhaps another 3-4 seasons.

The Office Season 8 turns into an Office-version of American Idol!
Crazy competitions, cliques, and foolishness, with Robert California playing the Simon Cowell role.
American Manager Idol!
