Fire Accident Halts One 'America's Got Talent' Semi-Finals Performance (VIDEO)
Danger acts have been doing very well on 'America's Got Talent' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC), but the more times you see them, the greater the risk of something going wrong. Especially on live television. It happened this week during Gymkana's fire ring act, though we can thankfully say no one was injured. It certainly didn't look good for a moment there, with one of the gymnasts lying under the ring of fire, but he insisted he was okay. Unfortunately for them, though, the accident shut down their act mid-performance and likely ended their shot at the grand prize.
But it was a much better night for some of the other acts in this final round of the semi-finals. Of twelve acts, only five will make it into the finals, and with so many rock-solid acts this season, the tension couldn't have been higher.
Tonight's eclectic group was much harder to call, as there were only a few standout performances, and a few disappointments. That means a few from the middle of the pack will find themselves in the finals.
Snap Boogie seems to have gone about as far as he can, and like Beth Ann Robinson will likely be eliminated tomorrow. It's just too hard for a solo dance act to compete head-to-head with some of the impressive dance troupes on the show. That said, was Fatally Unique even strong enough when compared mentally to West Springfield and Miami All Stars?
But then you have solo acts like Professor Splash, Steven Retchless, Landon Swank and The Kinetic King. They're all so different and they're all good at what they do, but do any of them feel like Vegas acts? Of the four, I'd say Splash may have survived his last jump, while King may find himself in the finals because America just loves this guy and his wacky personality.
Retchless is a wild card because it's such a strange act, though he was very good, while America has just never gotten behind illusion acts in quite big enough numbers on this show to give Swank a real shot at the title, even though he's a very polished and entertaining stage performer.
Summerwind Skippers and Smage Bros. Riding Show are also good at what they do, but I don't see them as standing out enough to fly past some of the more dynamic and awe-inspiring acts in the competition. That said, the Silhouettes weren't as strong this week, but past performances and feelings from their fans may elevate them to the finals regardless.
Landau Eugene Murphy and Anna Graceman are virtual locks for the next round after each gave another spectacular vocal performance in these semi-finals. Everyone knows how much America loves their vocal acts. But which three acts will join them? I'm going to say it will be The Kinetic King, Silhouettes and ... Landon Swank (judges' pick).
