As one of the most unexpected superstars to come out of 'Britain's Got Talent,' Susan Boyle is an inspiration to anyone seeking success and stardom via a talent competition. So it was completely appropriate and properly uplifting for her to come and perform on 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC).!!SPOILER ALERT!!
While Boyle wasn't as commanding vocally as she has been in the past, she still knows how to command a crowd, and she was able to give that emotional boost the contestants need at this late stage of the competition.
Competing on these shows can be exhausting, and the further you get the harder it begins to beat you down. And with this season's Top 10 looking to be the most competitive yet, everyone needs to be at their best.
Last week, we saw the first half of that Top 10 move into the Finals. This week it was up to America to round them out, and they did a great job of selecting some very deserving acts.
Silhouettes was a no-brainer, even though this week's performance was a little wonky and less clear than prior visions. But they're a definite fan favorite, and earlier favor helped propel them forward.
As expected, both Anna Graceman and Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. are moving on to the next round. I was a little surprised to see Landan Swank make it through solely on America's votes; I expected the judges to have to put him through. But I guess America had finally seen enough of The Kinetic King.
Admittedly, his act last night wasn't as dynamic as his previous one. He should have lifted more banners or found a way to work humor into it. Oh well, I can't complain about Swank as he is a solid showman.
That, though, meant the judges had to choose between Snap Boogie and Smage Bros. Riding Show, and I'm thrilled to see them go with Smage Bros. It really is impressive what they can do with such a limited amount of space, and they manage to keep things exciting and breathtakingly terrifying at the same time.
So there you have it, America. A tougher Top 10 I cannot remember in 'America's Got Talent' history. Who will make the Top 4? Who will win the whole thing?
1) Lys Agnes (opera singer)
2) Anna Graceman (11-year old singer)
3) Miami All Stars (partnering dance troupe)
4) Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. (big band singer)
5) POPLYFE (teen band)
6) Silhouettes (shadow dance troupe)
7) Smage Bros. Riding Show (motorcyle stunt team)
8) Landon Swank (illusionist/magician)
9) Team iLuminate (light-up dance troupe)
10) West Springfield Dance Team (horror dance troupe)
