So, it's not an 'Arrested Development' movie, but we're just as excited for David Cross' next project: a guest role on 'Modern Family.'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cross will recur on 'Modern Family''s third season as a city councilman named Duane who goes toe-to-toe with Claire.

No other details on exactly when he'll show up or for how long -- or whether he'll sport denim cutoffs under his costume -- but that doesn't stop us from getting extremely excited for this casting news.

Cross was recently engaged to his actress girlfriend of several years, Amber Tamblyn.

'Modern Family' premieres Wed., Sept. 21 on ABC.
