Regis Philbin Announces Final Show

by Chris Harnick, posted Sep 6th 2011 10:15AM
Regis PhilbinRegis Philbin will leave 'Live! With Regis and Kelly' for good on Fri., Nov. 18. The legendary TV host made the announcement of his final show live on his long-running morning program Mon., Sept. 6.

Philbin has been with the show from its start. Originally a local New York City talk show titled 'The Morning Show' from 1983 - 1988, Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford took the show national in 1988.

For a brief period after Gifford's departure in 2000, the show was titled simply 'Live! With Regis' until Kelly Ripa joined Philbin in 2001.

The talk show plans to honor Philbin in style. For the next three months the show will roll out new segments for the "Regis Farewell Celebration Season."

Leading up to Philbin's final show in November, 'Live' will spotlight some of the host's top moments and reminisce about classic memories. The regular 'Live' trivia segment will be rebranded so as to be nostalgia-based.

Look for some of Philbin's favorite guests to return to sit-down with the host for one last time.

Matt Damon, Stephen Moyer, Salma Hayek, Celine Dion, Jonah Hill, Seth Meyers, Gavin DeGraw, Taylor Lautner, James Marsden and Tom Selleck are booked for appearances this fall.

No official replacement for Philbin has been named.

They could do a Blazing Saddles Tribute to Regis, Call it a Rump Roast as Kelly Rippa's off a big one and lights it followed by all the guest he has interviewed over the years...

I think a lot more people will miss him, because a lot more people are sitting at home with nothing to do.

Yes I will miss Regis, he is an american icon. funny, outrageous and fun to ridicule. Kelly Ripa is a boorish prig. Always talking about her great husband and 3 perfect children. Who are you? Some two bit has been soap opera actor. She tries to be self depricating and it comes off as stupid and pathetic. Please ABC dump the show. Its not worth keeping.
