Lisa Can't Say Goodbye, Keeps Cats That Die, on 'Confessions: Animal Hoarding' (VIDEO)
There's always a point where you realize that something has crossed a line into an area of unhealthiness. On the latest 'Confessions: Animal Hoarding' (Wed., 10PM ET on Animal Planet), that moment came when Lisa revealed what was in her freezer. She had 25 cats in the home, and more of them were ill than she cared to admit. Pet owners know how expensive veterinary bills can get with just one or two pets, so the cost of maintaining such a huge number could be staggering.
As such, she'd had two cats die within the last month. The problem was, though, that she still had them in the house. More specifically, in her freezer.
"The reason they're still there is because putting them in the ground means they're gone for good," she said. "That's my final good-bye and that's very hard for me."
So she keeps them in the freezer because she can't say goodbye to them. This is where Lisa is admitting that she needs some help in dealing with grief. And it may be this inability to let go that is keeping her holding on to so many cats in the first place.
By the end of the episode, she had properly disposed of the dead cats, and agreed to give up 12 of the 25 she had. Thirteen is still a lot of cats, but it's at least a step in a more manageable direction for her.
