'H8R' Premiere: Snooki Finds Out Her Hater's Mom Is a Hater, Too (VIDEO)
Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi and former 'Bachelor' Jake Pavelka were the first subjects of new reality series 'H8R' (Wed., 8PM ET on The CW). The new series puts together C-list celebrities with regular people who hate them to see what happens when the celebrity stops being the sum of their tabloids and television appearances. In premise, the show isn't a bad idea, but in execution it was lacking. Plus, am I the only one who doesn't understand why this is a fall-launching show on a major network (minor-major network, but still!)? 'H8R' feels like the kind of filler that does quite well in the summertime, and even better on cable. Even the textable title screams MTV.
They did a great job with casting the premiere, though, as Snooki and Jake Pavelka are easily two of the most hated people to come from reality television. Snooki's hater was a guy named Nick, but she found out the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Nick's mother isn't a big fan either. Even though her argument against 'Jersey Shore' was understandable it put an onus of responsibility on the cast that isn't necessarily theirs to own.
"I don't personally like my daughter to watch the show because I don't like the image that it portrays," she said "The young people, they like to emulate you ... but that's not really what us moms and dads would like our kids to do."
Snooki couldn't really defend the show, other than to say the partying is just representative of growing up. Maybe it's more a matter of policing what the children are watching than passing judgment on a show featuring young adults.
Regardless, the family did come to see that Snooki is more than the parts they see on television. It's never clear if mom gets onboard the Snooki love train, but Nick at least seems willing to be more open-minded.
Jake Pavelka's journey wasn't so successful, though I blame Mario Lopez for some of that. His idea was to have Jake meet his hater, Danielle, and be everything she expects him to be. The problem is that he genuinely seems to possess those arrogant d-bag qualities, so when it was time to turn them "off," there wasn't much of a change.
Even his crocodile tears -- now who's hating? -- couldn't sway her from hating on him, but he's probably pretty cool with how things turned out. After all, he got to be on another television show.
