Ashton Kutcher's Debut Boosts 'Two and a Half Men' Ratings, 'The Playboy Club' Fizzles

by Chris Harnick, posted Sep 20th 2011 11:40AM
Ashton Kutcher, Two and a Half Men ratingsJust how many people tuned in to watch the new 'Two and a Half Men'? More than 28 million.

Ashton Kutcher's debut was seen by 10.7 million people in the 18-49 demographic and a total of 28.7 million viewers.

Last season's debut was seen by 14.7 million viewers, which means that Ashton's debut nearly doubled the Season 8 premiere ratings.

Charlie Sheen's last episode in February was watched by 14.5 million viewers.

The premiere, which dealt with the death of Sheen's Charlie Harper character, included a parade of guest stars like Jeri Ryan, John Stamos, Jenna Elfman and Thomas Gibson. Kutcher's Walden Schmidt character meets Jon Cryer's Alan after Walden tries to drown himself. The two characters bond over loss and thus a new wacky situation was born.

Kat Dennings' '2 Broke Girls' got a healthy viewership from Kutcher's 'Men' debut and pulled in 19.2 million viewers, 7 million in the 18-49 demographic. The 'How I Met Your Mother' two-part premiere was up from last year, part one getting 11.3 million viewers and part two attracting 12.2 million viewers. 'Hawaii Five-0' was down from last year, only grabbing about 12 million viewers.

Over on NBC, 'The Playboy Club' attracted only 5 million viewers total and 1.6 million adults in the 18-49 demographic. Compared to the canceled 'Chase,' which got 2.5 million in the demographic in the same timeslot last season, it's not looking too great for 'The Playboy Club.' 'The Sing Off' also premiered soft and grabbed 5.2 million viewers and a 1.9 in the 18-49 demographic.

Stay tuned for ABC's ratings once they're released.

Nice show, nice story and nice cast. I like Two and a Half Men tv show and I think that Ashton Kutcher is trying his best to take Charlies place.

the playboy club is ancient news and old morality with little interest to today's people.

as for 2.5 men, an example of boring, repetitive humor that appeals to america's moron class. although I do like some of kutcher's films...www.hard-truths.blogspot.com

I watched a portion of Two and a half men, it was okay, but I suspect the high viewership was generated by the shows" off air" controversies. I watched the Playboy Club and I found it incredibly dull as well as confusing. To my knowledge, there was never any "Mob" connection to Playboy Enterprises and that is an odd bit of artistic license.
The real story of the Playboy clubs and their controversy in a simpler era would have been a better kickoff.
I watched Castle, one of my favorites, and I am concerned that both Castle and Fringe are running out of steam (sadly Fringe is having trouble with viewership and it is in 2 Universes)

I think ashton Is not a very good actor, he cant even act on punk'd note he doesnt even have a role there he is just a host. but even then, even the wild thing, Mr. topper harley or the great actor charlie sheen wouldn't be able to replace kelso in that 70's show, the difference is kelso is not the main character in that 70's show and charlie harper is the main character of 2NHM.

Oh and even though Charlie supposedly died.....There was body shown. We all know how crazy Rose is for him...she'd lie and say he died to keep him locked in a basement somewhere - where she could have him all to herself. OR she could be helping him stay under wraps so he could clean up his act. Alas just to come back to the real world in his new a improved persona just to slip back into his womanizing ways. It could happen. LOL

I have to admit I wasn't surprised by the negative response to the show. Ashton Kutcher MAY be a good actor (although I've never been impressed by anything he's done) but he's no Charlie Sheen. He came off as a whineyer version of Cryer's character. He's not funny! Than to hear Shari Shepherd talk about going crazy over him taking his shirt off. Really, there are some very undemanding females in this world if they were gaga over the skin and bones body that is Ashton Kutcher. Ewwwww. If this is going to be successful, they need to take it in an entirely different direction becuase to continue to put him in situations that will compare him to Charlie Sheen...is just setting him up for failure. I mean really, his biggest claim to fame is landing Demi Moore.....also umimpressive.

Oh boo-hoo.......bunch of whiners. The new 2 1/2 men was bomb!!! Our whole family laughed ourselves crazy.
Peeeps, get a sense of humor. Charlie was good but getting old.....Ashton is a breath of fresh air. This show will live on and the peeps that know how to laugh will live on with it.
