The American remake of 'Prime Suspect,' which stars Maria Bello as a hard-charging homicide detective, premieres Thursday night on NBC. Bello stopped by 'Today' (9AM ET on NBC) to talk about the new show and how she envisions audiences relating to her character."My character Jane Timoney is completely unapologetic, direct, impatient, honest to a fault, and people will find her funny or she'll make them crazy," Bello predicted. Helen Miren played Timoney in the British version of the show, so Bello has some big shoes to fill.
Ann Curry predicted audiences will identify with Timoney because of the sexism she faces from her male colleagues. Bello agreed. "People say that sexism is over, but every woman that I've ever spoken to says, 'that's not quite true.'"
Bello also joked about the show's advertising campaign, which has been pretty much everywhere lately. It got a little weird for Bello when she was talking on her cell phone in a taxi cab, watching her character talk on the phone on the cab's video screen.
