'Gossip Girl' Season Premiere Recap: Top 5 OMG Moments
['Gossip Girl' - 'Yes Than Zero']Another summer gone, another scandalous season of 'Gossip Girl' ahead, but many of last year's burning questions still remain unanswered: Who's carrying a little extra baby weight? Who is crazy cousin
Surprisingly, the Season 5 premiere sheds a little light on at least some of those quandaries, and for all the questions we don't get answered, there's a fabulous dress to distract us.
Still, we can always rely on 'GG' to provide an OMG moment or two, so hit the jump for our Top Five most gaspworthy moments from the first episode.
1. Blair's Baby Bump
How did you like that sneaky switcheroo, scandal seekers? Just when we thought Dorota was the only one dressing for two, Blair's observant seamstress drops another baby bombshell on us (and EP Josh Safran promised us that both Dorota and Blair are indeed knocked up). Is there a Baby Bass on the way, or a right royal embarrassment? Either way, we wonder how our once and future Queen B intends to hide her little secret, considering that Princess Sophie's wedding dress doesn't have a maternity pouch built in ...
2. Chuck's Crash
Being a "yes man" might have worked for Jim Carrey, but our adrenaline-junkie billionaire is looking a little worse for wear following his thrill-seeking stint in L.A. But hey, what's a little internal bleeding when the love of your life is marrying her Prince Charming? Chuck might feel like he has nothing to lose, but we wonder if Blair will agree that he's as disposable as he thinks he is once he gets back to New York. Don't expect him to pull out of his nosedive any time soon, though -- according to the previews for next week, Chuck's penchant for risk-taking is going to get worse before it gets better. At least his old coping mechanism of acting like a man-ho in times of crisis hasn't changed ... (Zoe Bell, though? We're dubious.)
3. Dan's Dastardly Plan
While the Bass is away, Lonely Boy will play -- and it's reassuring to know that all that time he's spent around scheming and backstabbing socialites has rubbed off on Dan. Apparently, he's prepared to throw Louis under the bus and run away with Blair even while her prince is working to prevent the Very Public Scandal that Dan set in motion ... and they say chivalry is dead! Clearly, a Dair romance is the last thing on Blair's mind (what with all the wedding planning and impending baby drama), but now we know where Dan stands on the matter -- he's still trying to date above his station. We're just not sure that Blair's the type for a 'Prince and the Pauper' triangle, especially since she'll probably be busy with 'the prince and the billionaire.' We're just wondering what he actually wrote about Blair that's scandalous enough to warrant sabotaging a 'Vanity Fair' byline, and when exactly his shocking story will finally hit the shelves, since it seems like Vanessa's going full steam ahead on making her former BFF into a bestselling author whether he likes it or not. (Do you miss her? Us neither.) And while Dan's life choices are pretty questionable right now, we're admittedly amused by Rufus' gossipy teenager makeover; he's clearly more interested in Dan's love life than he is in seeing his own wife, the invisible star of 'The Real House Arrest of New York' who won't appear until episode three.
4. Nate's Cougar Hunt
Poor, beautiful Nate -- so very pretty and so very boring; he's revisiting his cougar town storyline from Season 3 with the sultry Elizabeth Hurley for lack of anything (or anyone) better to do. While the producers promise that Hurley's character will bring Nate to the forefront of the story as well as entangling them both in the lives of all our other characters, right now it just seems like fifth verse, same as the first. And if Nate's going to be having more sex, we're going to need to see a lot more skin from Chace Crawford, m'kay, producers?
5. Serena's Professional Makeover
Who'd have thunk it, Serena's turned working girl, and thus far, she hasn't had to flirt or fabulously dress her way to the top. This season is supposed to be a year of growth and evolution for all of our Upper East Siders, and we're pleased to say that so far, Serena's doing a convincing job of turning over a new leaf. She's working hard, fetching coffee and copies (and pot) and not sleeping with the boss -- could this really be a whole new S? We're not certain that the improved work ethic will last, considering our golden girl finds it difficult to stay away from New York for long, but we're impressed by the way she took responsibility for her evil boss' sabotage and didn't try to lie her way out of it. Do you think she'll go the distance in the movie biz?
'Gossip Girl' airs Mondays, 8PM ET on The CW.
