Starz Renews 'Boss' Before Season 1 Even Premieres

by Chris Harnick, posted Sep 27th 2011 4:35PM
Boss'Boss,' Kelsey Grammer's return to scripted TV, has received a Season 2 pick-up before Season 1 has even hit the airwaves.

That means 10 new episodes (in addition to Season 1's eight) of the Farhad Safinia-created series will eventually hit the airwaves.

"The first time we read Farhad's script, we knew we had to make 'Boss,'" Chris Albrecht, CEO and president of Starz, said in a statement. "With each episode, the story grew richer, and the cast continued to turn in breakthrough performances.

"Led by Kelsey and Farhad, this creative team is giving us dramatic storytelling at its very best. For our viewers, we felt it important to start working on the next season as soon as possible."

Grammer stars as Chicago's powerful mayor Tom Kane (Grammer). His character will be threatened with a secret that could topple him.

After 'Frasier,' Grammer tried his hand at two sitcoms, 'Back to You' and 'Hank.' Both were canceled. Last season, he appeared alongside then-wife Camille Grammer on Bravo's 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.' Their marriage seemingly imploded on screen.

"It's nice to get this vote of confidence," Grammer said about the 'Boss' renewal. "Good thinking, I love this show."

'Boss' premieres Fri., Oct. 21, 10PM ET on Starz

After reading some comments it never ceases to amaze me how people judge others based solely on scripted TV shows. And "reality" shows are scripted, if not completely, then mostly. They are also edited to the point that the people in them are nearly fictional characters.

I would never watch anything involving Kelsey Grammer. He is so obnoxious and doesn't know how to treat women. He should be ashamed to be seen in public!!

Get real.

This is completely stolen from Russia's Tele 2 series.

While I understand Grammer's wanting to do something after how many years as "Dr Frasier Crane" on both "Cheers" and "Frasier" and then flopping with the last couple of sitcoms he's been in, why on earth would anyone in their right mind want to do a *scripted* show about a likely corrupt politician when there are plenty of genuinely corrupt politicians actually in charge of cities, counties, states and in Congress? If people paid half the attention to the real-life political crooks that they will to this TV series, the only corrupt politicians we'd ever see would be the ones populating TV dramas and sitcoms.
