Fox Orders Full Season of 'New Girl'

by Chris Harnick, posted Sep 28th 2011 4:40PM
New GirlFox has ordered a full season of 'New Girl.'

After just two episodes, the network has ordered an additional 11, giving the first season of the Zooey Deschanel-fronted comedy 24 episodes.

"We love the charming Zooey Deschanel and the entire cast, we're knocked out with the work that Liz Meriwether and the whole staff is doing and we are really psyched about the upcoming episodes in the pipeline," Kevin Reilly, president of entertainment at Fox, said in a statement. "It's great that audiences have responded so positively so far and we're confident that even more people will embrace the show -- and more comedy on Fox -- this season."

The premiere of 'New Girl' was seen by 11 million viewers, despite having been available online for days before. The second episode was watched by 9.3 million. It's been performing well in the target 18-49 demographic.

Deschanel stars as a young teacher who moves in with three male strangers after she catches her boyfriend cheating on her.

The show tries, but just misses the mark somehow. Zooey Deschanel is pretty and I really want to like her, but something about her personallity and the way she expresses it through her acting just rubs me the wrong way.

This is such an odd show. It's amusing, but not really funny. I'm not sure if that's what they're trying for or if the jokes are just falling a bit flat. I get what they're aiming for and I think it has the potential to be a really good show, but it feels like they rushed the Jess/roommates relationship along too quickly. The guys abandoning a party they've been looking forward to all year in order to rescue Jess from being stood up seemed too sudden and she hadn't really done anything to earn that level of commitment from them. They jumped over all the awkward getting to know each other stuff that gives a big moment like that its emotional resonance. Hopefully the roommates get more development as the series goes along and now that Jess is over her ex, we'll get to see a brighter, more confident side of her personality.

Miss Alex!

I don't know what these other commenters find so disappointing about this show, I think that it is adorable. Oh well, it's renewed so there's nothing they can do about it except NOT WATCH and not ruin it for other people.

The show is only ok. I'll give it another few weeks. It's better than Whitney.
