Observation Skills Critical in Double-Elimination Leg of 'The Amazing Race' (VIDEO)

'The Amazing Race 19' - 'The Sprint of Our Life (Indonesia)'After coming in last during the first leg of 'The Amazing Race' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS), grandparents Bill & Cathi learned that they were being spared elimination. However, not only would they have to face a Speed Bump during the next leg of the race, it was also going to be the first ever double-elimination in 'Race' history.

In a way, that made the equalizer at the airport even more frustrating this time around, as it would have been fun to see them scramble and overcome such an obstacle, if they had it in them. Regardless, though, it was an action-packed leg that required a keen eye and astute observation.

That was something that turned out to be in small supply. You would think that if there is a sign in English in a country that doesn't speak English, you might read it. Alas, only a few teams bothered to read it, meaning it was chaos at the finish with the majority having to go back and complete the task properly.

This helped the three teams that did read the clue rise to the top, and pushed both domestic partners Ron & Bill and Ethan & Jenna into the last two positions. The double-elimination twist wound up eliminating the 'Survivor' alums, as they came in 10th on the leg, which can't be what CBS was hoping for.

That does explain why the couple was virtually ignored last week. If they're not going to factor for long in the race, why spend much time getting to know them? This week turned out to be their swan song, so we got to see them bicker a bit.
