Seth MacFarlane's Leading Men All Meet in Conclusion of Hurricane Crossover (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 3rd 2011 2:45AM
'American Dad' - 'Hurricane!'Originally planned to the be the season finales for Seth MacFarlane's shows this past May, the hurricane crossover for 'The Cleveland Show,' 'Family Guy' and 'American Dad' (Sun., 9:30PM ET on FOX) was shelved in response to a swath of tornadoes devastating the country at that time.

While there was a lot of fanfare for their impending premiere back then, FOX very quietly dropped them in as the second episodes of their respective series this season. Disappointingly, it wasn't until 'American Dad,' though, that the hurricane really became the focal point of the story.

As such, it was a bit of an overall disappointment as a crossover event, though we absolutely loved Cleveland Brown and Peter Griffin making a cameo at the end of 'American Dad.'

That one scene showed us the potential fun that could be had in a real crossover, which this easily could have been. Instead, 'Cleveland' did an episode about Junior's atheism, while 'Family Guy' spotlighted Meg standing up for herself, and Brian tripping on 'shrooms.

For those episodes, it was basically raining out the windows and there were a few mentions here and there. Cleveland was trapped under a branch, but even that could have happened from any storm, or even just because.

'American Dad,' though, fully embraced the natural disaster while showing us how terrible Stan is in a crisis. It made for both compelling and exciting television. If only the rest of the night could have committed as directly to the gimmick.

It was about time Meg got to stand up for herself. It was a very rewarding show for those of us who have been watching Meg get abused for so long...Bravo Meg... time for justice. Don't watch American dad or Cleveland. Tried to get into them but just can't. Family guy isn't as fun or funny without cleveland, the old man...the past two season have been too focused on Peter. Better when each of the star characters have larger roles.
