'Up All Night,' 'Whitney' Get Full Seasons From NBC

Up All Night, Whitney full seasonsNBC has ordered full seasons of 'Up All Night' and 'Whitney.' The writing is on the wall for the end of NBC's other new comedy 'Free Agents.'

"We made comedy an important goal for us this season and I'm very pleased to be making full-season commitments to both 'Whitney' and 'Up All Night,'" Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. "We're thrilled with the creative direction of both shows as well as the potential for them to continue to build loyal audiences over the coming months. We're proud of all of the producers, writers, actors, and directors who have worked so hard to bring these shows to life."

Will Arnett, Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph star in 'Up All Night.' Created by 'Parks and Recreation' writer Emily Spivey, the comedy follows the lives of new parents Chris (Arnett) and Reagan (Applegate) as they juggle their new lives with a baby. Rudolph plays Ava, Reagan's talk show host boss.

The show has had solid ratings for NBC, pulling in more than a 2 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Its most recent episode was watched by 5.3 million viewers.

'Whitney' has been panned by critics, but retained a chunk of its lead-in 'Office' audience. Starring Whitney Cummings, the show features a take on modern relationships. Its most recent episode was watched by 5.4 million viewers.

NBC has canceled the first show of the season: 'The Playboy Club.'

I do not think that people gave these shows a chance - they are BOTH sooo funny!

Whitney is awful. If the promos have the funny parts (I would hope), that would make the rest of the show even worse. Is that even possible?

Yuck. Whitney and Up All Night are two of the worst shows this season. Though allegedly "filmed before a live studio audience" the laughtrack on Whitney is horribad, and the acting/writing has bad pacing and is clunky, clumsy and just plain subpar. I couldn't even get through an episode of Up All Night. Just plain boring and so far past cliche that it delves into the realm of inane.

Whitney Cumming's other show (created by/exec producer), Two Broke Girls, is far more enjoyable, and Kat Dennings' delivery of the sarcastic/sardonic lines is perfect! She pulls off the momentary pause where one considers whether or not to deliver the 'all too easy' burn at the perfect beat. Beth Behr is great as the ditzy-but-smart fallen heiress. Love the supporting cast of the constantly chagrined diner-owner (Mathew Moy) and his brusque cashier (Garrett Morris!). Much better writing on this show also.

Phew... good for 'Whitney' it is a fun show, shame about Playboy club, but first episode was dull, Cipriani was stiff and has no charisma on screen.

I can't believe they are canceling a good show like The Playboy Club for another Newsmagazine show. All we need is another reality show or newsmagazine show. Who makes these decisions for the network?

What are they stupid? I mean the people that watch the office then sit through Whitney.
Maybe that's an indication of the quality of the Office...either way its not good for anyone involved.

whitney is a GOD awful show! she's trying to be snarky funny & quirky, but she completely misses the mark. it's so predictible and not even remotely funny. her boyfriend has some talent but she's so over the top trying to hold up the show it's sad. it needs to be canceled. the storylines are so blah, and the laugh track goes every 15 seconds. translation the LIVE audience she tapes in front of didn't find it funny. take the hint NBC.

She's cute....but dreadfully unfunny. And the fake laugh track? Welcome to the 60's again.
