'American Horror Story': Ben Gets a Warning About the House He'll Surely Ignore (VIDEO)

'American Horror Story' - 'Pilot'After much anticipation, 'American Horror Story' (Wed., 10PM ET on FX) finally premiered, and it's about as twisted, convoluted and bizarre as you could hope. Creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk seem to be happy to have returned to FX, where they created 'Nip/Tuck.'

'AHS' brings plenty of sex appeal with its horror, which has elements of 'The Shining' and other psychological horrors. Thankfully, they don't appear to have gone the slasher route with this one, preferring to do a lot of their work in the dark and in the mind.

Questioning reality was a huge part of this premiere, with both the characters and the viewers wondering what was really happening and what we were really seeing throughout many powerful moments. If the show can weave all of this insanity together into something coherent, this could well prove to be brilliant.

Even when we get seemingly sympathetic characters to the dangers faced by the Harmon family in their new home -- haunted for your displeasure! -- there's a twist to make us question it again. The housekeeper clearly has her own agenda, and may have supernatural abilities.

The kindly old neighbor and her daughter are both already established as dangerous and unstable characters. Daughter Violet's new friend -- and her father's patient -- Tate seems to know a lot more about the house than he's letting on, and he appears to be a bit of a loose cannon.

Even the former owner and burn victim who tried to warn Ben by telling him to get his family and get out, contorted a wicked smile when Ben finally ran away from him. Will there be no one for the family to turn to aside from one another as things only get worse?

It's great to see horror getting some quality television series in the past two years. If 'AHS' can match the success of 'The Walking Dead,' and we think it will, we may be on the verge of a TV horror renaissance.

Was very disappointed. To graphic. It was a mess and there is no one to root for. Won't be watching this one again.

A disjointed, scene-jerking hot mess with absolutely NO likeable cast members. First and last time I watch it.

The biggest problem is the star. This show, good or bad, will most likely not last long.
