'So You Think You Can Dance' Renewed For Season 9

Fox has renewed its Emmy-nominated talent competition 'So You Think You Can Dance' for Season 9.

'SYTYCD' creator and judge Nigel Lythgoe confirmed the news on Twitter. "FOX has picked up #SYTYCD for it's 9th season, it was announced today by Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox. [HOORAY]," Lythgoe tweeted.

"For the past eight seasons, 'So You Think You Can Dance' has been a huge part of our success," Darnell said in a statement. We are excited to bring the series and an incredible set of new dancers back for another fantastic season."

Recently, the show received eight 2011 Emmy nominations, including Best Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Reality Host for British host Cat Deeley.

The reality dance competition, featuring permanent judges Lythgoe and ballroom specialist Mary Murphy, recently wrapped Season 8. On Aug. 11 contemporary dancer Melanie Moore was crowned the Season 8 winner, and Sasha Mallory, the runner-up, with approximately 11.5 million total votes cast. On average, Season 8 had 5 million viewers per episode.

Since its premiere in 2005, 'So You Think You Can Dance' has been produced in a total of 21 countries, with 20 other localized adaptations around the world.
