Why It's Time for Chaz Bono to Leave 'Dancing With the Stars'

by Crystal Bell, posted Oct 10th 2011 4:45PM
Before you decide to hate me, hear me out. I was truly anticipating Chaz Bono's domination on the dance floor this season on 'Dancing With the Stars.' I was rooting for him, and not because of the controversy but because he seemed like he was having a great time in the ballroom.

But then that changed -- and so did my allegiance. It's hard not to be captivated by dancers like J.R. Martinez and Ricki Lake, both of whom have shown incredible natural dancing ability over the past few weeks. Chaz, meanwhile, seems to have lost his early sizzle. He looks like he's bored, confused and in pain most of the time. And where's the entertainment in that?

That's not to say that Chaz hasn't stepped out of his comfort zone and pushed himself these past three weeks, because he has, but I can't help but feel like keeping him on 'DWTS' is unfair to the other contestants -- and the viewers. So I'm just going to say it: It's time for Chaz to go. Here's why.

1. Chaz and Lacey are painful to watch together. Watching Chaz and Lacey Schwimmer every week, I can't help but grimace at their obvious distaste for each other. There is absolutely no chemistry between these two people. Seriously, I thought Elisabetta and Val were bad, but at least they had the excuse of an actual language barrier. Lacey just looks like she wants nothing more than to be put out of her misery. It would be one thing if she had the patience of Anna Trebunskaya, but she doesn't, and Chaz and Lacey might just go down as the most awkward 'DWTS' couple ever.

2. He's in pain! During week-two rehearsals, Chaz suffered a knee injury, and watching him grimace in pain during every dance makes me wonder how much more he can take. Is the Mirror Ball really worth permanently damaging your body? Earth to Chaz: Your health is more important than some reality competition.

3. He has two left feet. In week one, Chaz came out strong, looked happy and danced an effortless cha cha. It wasn't the best of the night, but it wasn't the worst. And he looked excited. But then he lost his momentum -- and his sparkle. While the other contestants showed growth, he got worse. I'm not sure he's retaining anything -- and my guess is he feels the same way. Chaz has been at the bottom of the leaderboard for two weeks, and if this were any sort of legitimate contest, he would be gone.

It's time for Chaz to face the ballroom music. Not everyone can be a dancer. I definitely can't cha cha to save my life. I've accepted it, and now it's time for Chaz to do the same.

4. It's a painfully obvious popularity contest. Last week's shocking elimination sealed it. By sending Kristin Cavallari home, 'DWTS' lost whatever credibility it may have had as a dance competition. Instead, it appears to be nothing more than a popularity contest. By keeping Chaz on the show, 'DWTS' is clearly sending a message to viewers: "We don't care about the dancing!"

The other contestants must be wishing they, too, had pop icons for mothers, since it's obvious that tonight's Cher appearance is the only thing that saved saved Chaz from elimination last week. (I should mention that Chynna Phillips's father, John Phillips, was a rock icon of the 1960s, but he died in 2001.) What's next? Cher promises to release a new single if Chaz makes it to next week?

If J.R. Martinez or Chynna Phillips goes home before Chaz, I might have to give up on 'DWTS' for good.

I just really find it sad that better dancers have been voted off. Carson ADMITTED he can't dance but he CAN entertain. Chaz can do neither.

Chaz may single handedly end DWTS.

this show is only about self promotion, not self discovery through dance.
what a mockery of the fine art of dance.

Of course she/he is kept on because of the sex change sympathizers. What else is new. Americans are so odd...they root after the people who make bad life choices. It is quite obvious he/she is way out of her league with the competition to date. I predicted the normal heterosexuals would get the shaft from the beginning. Just glad everyone else finally stood up for what is right.

How does a transgender "do it:?? He has nothing in his psyche to get it up. The whole idea of a sex change leaves me with the feeling of upchucking. It is also from allowing a Santanic spirit.

You're an idiot. And the only one "allowing a Satanic spirit" is you by your decision to hate on someone & make nasty comments about someone who has nothing to do with you and has no effect on your life. And you DARE to evoke christianity? Hypocritical b!tch.

Why would any sponsors even want to be involved with a half man, half women through surgery and pills. I think the show is loosing it's ground very quickly. Chaz Bono can't dance to save her life and as for changes look at her Mother, who the cameras shot many times, what surgery has done to her. I will agree she needed her teeth straightened at the onset of her career but those lips come on now that Physician really blew them way out of proportion. I for one have lost all interest in watching since they again voted for her to remain on the show. The favorites that won in the past had talent not this disgrace and if she wins they should check the votes. If that is what your life is keep it too yourself but she had to make a big deal for the $$$$$. Gay is Gay but what kind of a joker is she. I for one watch the shows that have this type of a person on to see just how freaky they are and what led them to this lifestyle and then gossip about them with my friends. Who I feel sorry for is Lacey to have gotten stuck with this pig and for the rest of the cast who probably are wondering what to say about her dancing. I have also lost all faith in the judges. Carrie Ann with her comment was sickening.

Why is this article referring to chaz/chasity as a he or him or a male? She is a woman, a she, a female. Dressing in men's clothing and having facial hair and removing boobs does not make a woman into a man. Get it right! This is a SHE, not a he! And yes, she should be off the show. She never should have been on it to begin with, (she can't dance!) and certainly not a a male since she isn't a male. What a joke! If all women who wore men's clothes and had facial hair and had no boobs turned into men, that would men over half the female population would go from female to male - case in point, most females have facial hair, most wear men's jeans or shirts, etc., and women that have breast cancer and lose a breast or both would have to be called a he instead of a she - get real media people!!!

What is wrong with the media? Call a woman a woman and call a man a man, but don't call a woman a man and don't call a man a woman. Pretty simple concept.....

The WHOLE premise behind the show is people that are stars that are NOT dancers learning how to dance- So how does not knowing how to dance make anyone unworthy of being on the show? seems like Pretty simple concept....
Being transgender is MORE than simply playing dress up or taking a few pills. Among other things, their body is chemically the sex they have changed to- and when/if people can afford to, literally have the right sex organs through surgery for the sex they have become. Just because you do not get the chance to see those real and physical changes does not mean they are not there. Being transgender is about someone being in the wrong body for the spirit inside. Just because you do not understand the reasons that would make someone transgender does NOT make them Not a transgender. The world is Bigger than you imagine- and the range of peoples' sexuality is ever so much bigger than you apparently have the ability to understand. Just because you cannot or will not try to understand the reasons behind someone becoming transgender does NOT mean that they do not have the RIGHT to make that choice. Regardless of how you feel about it, YOU do NOT have the Right to try to make that decision for other people any more than you have the right to tell people that they cannot be with the same sex.
And there is NOTHING wrong with the media regarding how they are addressing Chaz. In fact they are appropriately respecting a choice made by someone and using appropriate terms. Calling a transgender (to) male a She or Her or a transgender (to) female a HE or HIM is tantamount to calling someone that is homosexual a "fag"- It is a direct and hurtful hateful statement.

Transgender is a politically correct way to say homosexual! They are not a MAN and never can be. Just Ellen up and call it what it is.
