Cheryl Hines Reveals the Inspiration for Her 'Suburgatory' Character (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 10th 2011 6:45PM
Cheryl Hines plays an over-the-top, crazy-eyed, 'Stepford Wives'-style supermom on the new absurdist suburban comedy 'Suburgatory.' She told the ladies of 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) that she drew some inspiration for the character from her mother.

"I took a page from my mom," Hines said, pointing to her in the studio audience. "My mom always says you need a little glitz and glamor, and if you got it, flaunt it."

Hines fleshed out the characterization about her mom a little bit more. When her kids were born, her mom didn't want to be called grandma, so they gave her the nickname Cracklin' Rosie instead. "Now all of her grandkids call her 'crackie,'" Hines said, chuckling.
